History of Dior with India

The Chanakya School of Craft, a non-profit organisation formed in 2017 by Monica Shah and Karishma Swali, supports female artists and protects the crafts that are a part of India's traditional legacy. The school has been a longtime collaborator with Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director of Dior, producing embroideries for the company's craft-focused collections and the set design for its runway shows. Grazia Chiuri, the brains behind Dior fashion and a self-described feminist, has frequently collaborated with the non-profit to bring to life works by other notable feminists.

During one particular exhibition, the Chanakya women embroidered panels with feminist slogans onto Judy Chicago's artworks. To bring to life Eva Jospin's observations on Virginia Woolfe's writings in A Room Of One's Own, her artwork was transformed into hand-embroidered curtains at another exhibition. They also worked to incorporate their 3D hand embroideries onto artist pair Manu and Madhvi Parekh's artworks, which were presented as wall hangings at a fashion event last year. 

Maria Grazia Chiuri, the artistic director of Dior's women's collections, worked with the Mumbai-based Chanakya School Of Craft atelier to display the ready-to-wear line-up.
