Odia Actress Jharana Das Passes Away At The Age Of 77

Veteran Ollywood actress Jharana Das passed away late Thursday night at her home in Cuttack's Chandi Road. She was 77. Sources claim that Das had been afflicted with old age illnesses for a considerable time. Her work in films like Amadabata, Malajanha, Nari, Sri Jagannath, Adina Megha, and Abhinetri has cemented her legacy in the hearts of her fans. She had moreover performed in numerous plays, TV series, and serials.

Jharana Das Biography

Veteran Ollywood actress Jharana Das passed away late Thursday night at her home in Cuttack's Chandi Road. She was 77. Jharana Das was born in the year 1945 and began her career as a child performer with All India Radio, Cuttack before India gained independence. Her followers still recall her lovely voice and the various personas she played. Jharana Das continued to amuse her fans by giving performances on the big screen after her time with AIR, when she began her acting career in the 1960s. Jharana Das also studied the Odissi dance and was given a chance to learn classical dance under the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Additionally, in 2016, she received the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award for lifetime achievement.

Famous actors and her fans came to Jharana Das' home after the sad news spread to offer their respects. Dilip Hali, a film critic, described her passing as a significant loss to the Odia film industry.

Prominent Personalities Mourning The Loss Of Jharana Das

Sritam Das, Secretary of the Odisha Artistes' Association, had good words to speak about the veteran actress. He said, "I can remember her saying she started acting when there were restrictions for women to act in plays and films. Despite the hurdles, she took her career to a great height. Her demise is a big loss for us". He continued, saying, "Decision regarding her last rites will be taken after the arrival of her younger son. Her last rites will be conducted at Gorakabar in Cuttack".

 Actress Jharana Das' loss was also mourned by the Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, who said he is mourning the loss of such a revered actress who will be remembered in the world of Odisha Cinema. Even the President of India, Shri Droupadi Murmu, paid her respects via social media by putting up a tweet on Twitter.
