A model is someone who performs one of several functions, including serving as a visual aid for artists making works of art, posing for photographs, or promoting, displaying, or advertising commercial products (particularly fashion apparel in fashion shows).

Despite the fact that women make up the majority of models, men do exist, particularly in the fashion industry. Models may have formal or informal jobs. A few prominent male models include Rohan Mehra, Aamir Ali, and Harsh Rajput. 

The 'founder of haute couture,' Charles Frederick Worth, who invited his wife, Marie Vernet Worth, to model his creations, is credited with establishing modeling as a profession in 1853.

Modeling is regarded as distinct from other forms of public performance, such as acting or dancing. Although it is not often evident how modeling differs from performing, being an actor in a play or a movie is not typically seen as ‘modeling.’ 

Similar to this, participating in a TV commercial is typically not seen as modeling. Speaking is typically not involved in modeling. Personal thoughts are typically kept to oneself, and a model's reputation and appearance are taken very seriously.

Fashion, glamour, fitness, bikini, fine art, body-part, promotional, and commercial print models are a few examples of modeling categories. Models appear in a wide range of media, such as books, magazines, movies, newspapers, the internet, and television.

In addition to their regular jobs, celebrities including actresses, singers, athletes, and reality TV stars frequently take part in modeling competitions, assignments, and contracts. Modeling is frequently not a full-time, primary activity.
