The importance of yoga in our modern-day life is abundant and that’s one of the reasons why it’s come to become an important part of our daily routine and received International importance. We observe International Yoga Day on June 21 since 2015 to spread awareness about the importance and effects of yoga on the health of an individual.
Yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person’s mental well-being and helps develop inner awareness. Whether you’re a couch potato or a professional athlete, there are various modifications for all as the main idea is to explore your limits not to attain perfection. If you’re gearing up to start your yoga journey this International Yoga Day, we’re here to lend all our support to help you to challenge yourself!
Here is a basic do’s and don’ts guide for morning yoga, for beginners which should not be neglected since they help with the smooth flow of the asanas and prevent yoga-related injuries.
Yoga Asanas Do's for Beginners
- A well-rested body always responds better to yoga, so make sure you’ve got a good night’s rest.
- Always begin early in the morning, preferably after finishing your morning routine but making sure not to eat anything.
- It’s very important to have a clean room with good ventilation around so that fresh air and sunlight can be let into the room.
- If possible practice yoga in an open area.
- Make sure you use a yoga mat or a blanket on levelled flooring and pick a spot where early morning tender sunrays fall.
- Yoga asanas are to be done very calmly and not in a hurried manner. The movements should be slow, non-jerky and rhythmic.
- While practicing yoga, one must be concentrated and not distracted. You need to keep away from your phone or anything that will easily distract you.
Yoga Asanas Don’ts for Beginners
- Avoid performing strenuous exercises after practicing yoga.
- Avoid practicing yoga during your menstrual cycle and pregnancy and make sure you consult your physician about the same.
- Do not consume heavy meals soon after or before doing your yoga asanas. Keep a gap of at least 2-3 hours after consuming heavy meals.
- Do not over-exert your body on days when you’re suffering from a fever, weakness or even if you've had any surgery done. Make sure you let your body get enough rest and start again only after full recovery.
- Never practice yoga in places with foul smell or smokey areas.
- Children below the age of 5 should not be forced to practice yoga.
- Do not suppress yourself from coughing or sneezing while practicing yoga.
Always remember, yoga is not just about twisting and bending your body or holding your breath. It is a technique meant to bring your body to a state where you can experience reality simply the way it is. Yoga obviously comes along with a long list of additional benefits but most of us take a vow to start getting regular after world yoga day but somewhere down the line, lose all the motivation to continue.
One way to overcome it is to start following celebrities on Instagram who will give you all the required motivation you need. You could also book personalized messages from your favourite yoga instructors and enthusiasts like Shakti Khatri, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Vidya Malavade, Sanjana Sharma to Poonam, Neelakshi, Mili Sarkar, Mohini Bhatia, Vaibhavlaxmi Jhala, Swami Avatarpuri to name a few! If you know someone who’d love to receive a little motivational push from their favourite celebrity, here’s your chance to do something nice for them. All you have to do is go to www.tring.co.in and select the celebrity of your choice, personalize the message and complete the booking. It’s a small gesture of love and will definitely push them towards their fitness and health goals!
