Fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of Sriram Raghavan's next directorial venture titled 'Merry Christmas'. The movie, starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, was announced shortly after the wedding of Katrina Kaif to actor Vicky Kaushal. The movie Merry Christmas, which is rumoured to be a mystery thriller, was supposed to release on Christmas this year but the makers have given a disappointing update to the fans.

Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi recently shared the poster of the movie 'Merry Christmas' on their respective Instagram profiles with rather disappointing news. Katrina Kaif captioned the post saying, "We wanted to release the film this Christmas...but there is a TWIST :)

See you in cinemas soon! #MerryChristmas 🎄". Vijay Sethupathi, however, just wrote a simple 'coming soon' with his post. The news about the delay in the film's release has definitely left fans of Sriram Raghavan upset as they were eagerly waiting for the director to return with another banger after the 2018 superhit film 'Andhadhun' starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte in lead roles. 



Reason Behind Merry Christmas Movie's Delay




Although the reason for the film's delay has not been revealed yet, it is speculated that the film Merry Christmas did not want to compete against Ranveer Singh's Cirkus, which was released on 23rd December 2022. Some Sources also mentioned that the filming of the movie has not been completed yet because of the halt in shooting when Katrina Kaif was infected with COVID-19. The film Merry Christmas is now speculated to release in the first quarter of 2023.

On the work front, both Katrina and Vijay are busy with upcoming releases. Katrina Kaif's upcoming movies include 'Tiger 3', where she will play the role of Zoya Humaini opposite Salman Khan. She will also appear in the movie 'Jee Le Zaraa' whose filming is going on in full swing. Vijay Setupathi is also busy shooting for a couple of movies, namely, 'Michael', 'Viduthalai', 'Gandhi Talks', 'Mumbaikar' and 'Jawan', to name a few.
