Biography
An important contributor to the Indian entertainment business is the actor, comedian, and television personality, Shekhar Suman. He is renowned for his wit and comedy in addition to acting. He has displayed these qualities on several television programs, including Movers and Shakers, Poll Khol, and The Great Indian Laughing Challenge.
Shekhar Suman is a multi-talented artist and had a spectacular career in the entertainment sector, and his contributions to Indian television and film have had a lasting impact.
Age
Shekhar Suman was born on Friday 7th December 1962 (61 years as of 2023), in Kadamkuan, Patna, Bihar. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius.
Childhood
He attended Jai Prakash Narayan's charkha samiti as a child, where he frequently fell asleep after eating laddu, gulab jamun, samosas, and rasgullas as snacks and sweets. Shekhar attended Vikas Vidyalaya in Ranchi and St. Xavier's in Patna for his formal education. He enjoyed playing marbles and flying kites when he was in school. Shekhar tried his hand at debate and theatre while he was a student at Vikas Vidyalaya, Ranchi. He also joined the NCC. He became so engrossed with NCC as a child that when he was older, he wanted to join the Indian Navy.
Education
Shekhar Suman completed his schooling at St. Xavier’s High School, Patna, and Vikas Vidyalaya, Ranchi. Shekhar enrolled in Ramjas College at Delhi University after finishing high school to pursue a degree in the arts (with a specialisation in History).
Shekhar had aspirations of becoming an IAS officer during his college years. Shekhar landed a job as a repertory actor at Shri Ram Centre not long after completing his degree. Shekhar spent some time working there before having a brief employment with Oberoi. He went back to work at Shri Ram Centre, where he received a monthly salary of Rs. 625.
Family
Shekhar Suman had 6 members in his Famliy. He has three sisters. Two of his younger sisters’ names Kshamata and Namarata.His father's name is Phani Bhushan Prasad he was a noted surgeon and director-in-chief of health services of the government of Bihar. Shekhars mother Usha Prasad died in 2021 due to kidney-related ailments. He got married to Alka Kapur. Shekhar had an older son who died due to a heart problem at the age of 11. Later he was blessed with a son named Adhyayan Suman who became a Bollywood actor.

There was a rumor that Shekhar Suman had previously dated Simple Kapadia and Supriya Pathak.
Wife and Children
Shekhar Suman wed his sweetheart Alka Kapur on May 4, 1983. Alka runs the clothing line Alkaline. They have a son named Adhyayan Suman, who is also an actor together.
Shekhar Suman first met her in his college days and was a student of IP college through a common friend. Initially becoming acquaintances, they then developed a romantic relationship. Shekhar was enchanted by Alka's beauty, but Alka was drawn to Shekhar for his sense of humor.
Shekhar stated in an interview while describing his love story, as it was love at first sight, there was undoubtedly a physical draw. She was the most gorgeous girl I had ever seen, and she exemplified what an average Indian woman should be like in every way.
They both dated each other for a while and soon disclosed their relationship to their parents. Shekhar’s parents were happy for the two and supported them whereas Alka’s parents were a little worried initially and later after meeting with Shekhar they accepted the two.
Struggles
Shekhar Suman and Alka had a son named Ayush Suman who died at the age of 11 due to a heart-related disease called micro-cardiac-fibroelastosis. After his death, both went through depression for several years.
In an interview, while talking about the sad time, Shekhar said, we felt deceived when Ayush departed, and there were times when you didn't want to live. But you come to understand that you must survive for your family. An incident like this strengthens familial ties. You experience feelings and fresh aspects of relationships for the first time.
Career
In 1984, Shekher made his acting debut in the movie Hamme Utay, which launched his career. He made his television debut in 1903 with the broadcast of the Dekh Bhai Dekh serial. He also performed serials for Waah Janab Kabhi idhar Kabhi Udhar, Andaz, Amar, Simply Shekhar etc. About 25 Bollywood movies, including Manav Hatya, Sansar, Anubhav, Tridevi, Patiparmeshwar, and Ranbhoomi, etc.
Also, he signed a few later-canceled movies like Yeh Kaisa Insaaf, Neeli Aankhen, Shudra, and Prem Mandir. He produced the 2006 Hindi movie Moonlight: Sadly a Love Story. He made his directing debut in 2014 with the Hindi movie Heartless, in which he also starred as Dr. Sameer Saxena. The movie, which had his younger son Adhyayan Suman in the lead position, was a memorial to his older son Aayush Suman, who died at a young age from a cardiac condition. The movie received favorable reviews even though it did poorly financially.
Suman has served as a judge to a few standup comedy shows such as The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (2005; aired on Star One), Comedy Circus - Kaante Ki Takkar (2008; aired on Sony Entertainment Television), Laugh India Laugh (2012; aired on Life OK), Comedy Superstar (2015; aired on Sony SAB), and India's Laughter Champion.
Shekhar also hosted the late-night chat program Movers & Shakers in 1997. The Sony Entertainment Television program was originally intended to air once per week, but due to the program's success, the producers chose to air it five evenings per week instead. The program, which featured Suman's talks with famous guests and comedic performances in between, eventually gained cult status, earning Suman a three-year, Rs. 35 crore contract with the channel. Shah Rukh Khan, Zakir Hussain, Allah Rakha, Yashwant Sinha, Kiran Bedi, and Vilasrao Deshmukh were among the stars who appeared on the program.
He debuted in playback singing in 2007 with the release of the album Kuch Khwaab Aise. In the same year, he also contributed his voice to the music album Rubaroo, which was composed by Aadesh Shrivastava and had lyrics by Shyam Raj.
Shekhar has also participated in two popular TV shows Raaz Pichle Janam ka (2009) and Jhalak Dikhla Jaa (2010), both were reality shows.
