Introduction

Anubhav Sinha wrote, directed, and produced the 2023 Indian Hindi-language social drama film Bheed (transl. Crowd). This film is a fictional story set in India during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown.  It stars Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, Ashutosh Rana, Pankaj Kapur, and Kritika Kamra in the lead roles. Principal photography began in October 2021 and will conclude in December 2021. The film was released to positive reviews on March 24, 2023.

Plot

Bheed is a fictitious account of the largest migration in India since partition in 1947, which occurred during the 2020 lockdown. It depicts how several characters in the film deal with the lockdown and migrate to a safe location.

Review

The Times of India's Archika Khurana gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars. She stated that Anubhav Sinha's film depiction of a specific stage of the pandemic accurately captures the pain felt by hundreds of people and is not an easy watch.

Filmfare's Davesh Sharma also gave it 3.5 stars out of 5. In his review, he praises the film and writes, The film highlights the plight of the oppressed while also highlighting the stark religious, racial, and caste divide that still exists in our nation. The director is unapologetic. He also does not indulge in melodrama.

Shubham Kulkarni of Koimoi gave it three stars out of five and wrote in his review that Bheed combines a necessary conversation with an ideology that dominates the necessary conversation. Although it is a complicated timepiece, there is no denying its worth.
