Introduction

R. Balki is the writer and director of the 2022 Indian Hindi-language murder thriller film Chup: Vengeance of the Artist. Details

Story

Nitin Srivatsav, a Mumbai-based film critic, is discovered dead at his home, and IG Arvind Mathur is tasked with looking into the matter. Arvind concludes that the assailant used a surgical knife to mutilate Nitin's body and drew an unreadable sign on his forehead.

A florist named Danny meets entertainment reporter Nila Menon, and the two start to fall in love. A few days later, Irshaad Ali, another film critic, is also discovered dead, his body crushed beneath a train. Danny and Nila become closer in the interim. On her birthday, which also happens to be the one-year anniversary of renowned actor and director Guru Dutt's passing, Danny gives her a surprise. He gives her Kaagaz Ke Phool as a present.

A week later, the body of another film critic, Parikshit Prabhu, is discovered in a cricket stadium with all of his organs and body parts taken. Arvind surmises that the murderer reads the critics' reviews and only targets those who give films bad reviews.

All of Mumbai's leading film reviewers are summoned by Arvind and asked to assist in the probe, but all decline out of fear for their lives. The next day, another critic, Govind Pandey, is discovered dead, and Danny is identified as his killer. Pandey had delivered a favourable review to a subpar movie because the movie's producers had paid him to do so.

He was brutally murdered by Danny, who also dismembered his body and dripped blood over the walls. Arvind then has two weeks to solve the case, during which time he enlists the aid of criminal psychologist Zenobia Shroff. Zenobia speculates that the murderer might be associated with the movie business.

Chup was released on 23 September 2022 in India.

Character Analysis

Up until a Gadar-like moment that completely undoes him, Sunny Deol exhibits unusual restraint in Chup, which is curiously out of character.

Shreya Dhanwanthary has a gorgeous appearance and gives excellent performances. She seamlessly transitions into the role.
