In Singapore, Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) works as a personal butler, cook, driver, watchman, and gardener for a successful industrialist named Archana Puran Singh. Nitin has aspirations for a better life as do all young men, but he is surrounded by bad luck and his work for Archana is his reality. He is supported financially by Anjali Kakkad (Katrina Kaif), the love of his life, and he longs to become wealthy in order to marry her.

Nitin's close buddy Ram Mishra (Suniel Shetty) similarly moved to Singapore with the hope of becoming wealthy but wound up working as a courier delivery man instead. He develops feelings for Manpreet Oberoi (Sameera Reddy), but her wealthy parents will never permit a union—at least not unless Ram is extremely wealthy. 

Harbans Chadda (Paresh Rawal), a cunning businessman, is searching for ways to increase his revenue and evade his debts in the midst of all of this. He determines that the wisest course of action would be for his son to be wed to a lady whose parents can afford to pay him a sizable dowry. At a Diwali event, he meets Manpreet's parents and is struck by their social standing. When he announces himself as a successful businessman, they are impressed and decide to arrange for the marriage of Manpreet and Harbans' (Chunky Pandey) son.

Nitin and Ram quickly come to a dead end in their relationship because of a number of things that are against them. They both conclude that the only way out of their suffering is to lead a life of vice after receiving ultimatums from their partners. They devise a bold scheme to kidnap a significant person and demand a ransom. Both hide out at a nearby hotel while awaiting the ransom money once the kidnapping goes smoothly. But bad luck never seems far away, and the kidnapping gets out of hand.

The hotel where Nitin and Ram are hiding out is also hosting Manpreet's wedding reception. They soon become friends with a colorful cast of individuals that includes a Chinese Don, a hired assassin, an ACB police inspector, a club dancer, an ambassador, a young dissatisfied double-crossing wife, a letch, a drunken waiter, and a dead body that no one wants to check into the hotel. What follows is De Dana Dan, a hilarious series of events that will have you in stitches.
