Dhadak is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language romantic film written and directed by Shashank Khaitan and co-produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, and Apoorva Mehta under the Dharma Productions banner, with Zee Studios as a sponsor producer. The film is a remake of Nagraj Manjule's 2016 Marathi language film Sairat, which was also produced by Zee Studios. It stars Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, with Ashutosh Rana, Ankit Bisht, Shridhar Watsar, Kshitij Kumar, and Aishwarya Narkar in supporting parts.
Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, made her screen debut in Dhadak, which Johar revealed in November 2017. Principal photography began in December 2017 and was finished in April 2018. Ajay-Atul created the soundtrack, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and background music by John Stewart Eduri. Zee Studios handled foreign distribution for the film.
Dhadak, which was supposed to be released on July 6, 2018, was postponed and had its global theatrical release on July 20, 2018. Although Khatter's performance was praised, it received negative reviews from film critics for glossing over the topic of caste-based discrimination, which was present in Sairat, and for being a poor remake of the original. Dhadak became a commercial hit, grossing over 110.11 crore (US$14 million) globally.

Dhadak is a 2018 Bollywood romantic drama film directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The movie is a Hindi remake of the Marathi film Sairat.
The story revolves around the forbidden love between Madhukar, played by Ishaan Khatter, and Parthavi, played by Janhvi Kapoor. Madhukar is the son of a small-time restaurant owner in Rajasthan, while Parthavi is the daughter of a wealthy political family. Madhukar and Parthavi fall in love despite their different backgrounds, but their families strongly oppose their relationship due to their social status. However, the young couple is determined to be together and they elope to Mumbai.
Life in the city is tough for the couple as they face new challenges and prejudices. They struggle to make ends meet and find work while also trying to keep their relationship a secret. But just as things start to look up, their past catches up with them, leading to a tragic and heart-wrenching climax.
Dhadak is a story of love, social divide, and the harsh realities of life that young people face in modern India. The film's beautiful cinematography, soulful music, and powerful performances by the lead actors make it a compelling and unforgettable cinematic experience.
On June 11, 2018, the official trailer for Dhadak was unveiled. Despite being slated to be released on July 6, 2018, the film was delayed and was instead released on July 20, 2018. It was released on over 2235 screens in India and 2791 screens globally. The film was also distributed in the Middle East, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Fiji, and Pakistan, in addition to India.
Critics gave Dhadak poor reviews. It was especially chastised for being a poor remake of Sairat, glossing over the original's subject of caste-based discrimination. Critics also thought that the film did not stand alone as a romance. According to the review collection website Rotten Tomatoes, Dhadak has a 31% rating based on 13 reviews, with a 4.9/10 average rating. While praising both Kapoor and Khatter for their acting abilities, Rajeev Masand of News18 gave it two and a half stars out of five and questioned the reasoning behind remaking Sairat, writing,
The caste issue, clearly too hot to manage in a mainstream Bollywood film, is largely ignored in Dhadak. The film received two stars from NDTV's Saibal Chatterjee, who stated that muddled screenplay, bland storytelling, and uneven lead performances leave this glossy Karan Johar production without a proper, palpable heartbeat, concluding, The result is a grind that pretty frames and fresh faces cannot mitigate.
Dhadak received one and a half stars from Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, who stated, Barring a few patches, Dhadak has neither requisite drama nor authenticity. It emphasises all of its scenes with loud background music to inform us how we should feel. It's neither a formal remake of Sairat nor a stand-alone Bollywood romance. The heartbreak of shabby treatment from one's own family, the struggle of employment sans proper qualification in an alien city, the resentment, doubts, and insecurities spawned by unending challenges hardly registers in Dhadak's superficial, clueless worldview, writes Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com.
She did, however, compliment Khatter for never seeming out of his depth no matter how silly the setup, as well as Kapoor for her expressive Chandni eyes. Firstpost's Anna M. M. Vetticad gave the film one and a half stars, saying, In Dhadak are sketchily written, as are the pair's struggles in their new life away from their parents.

Dhadak is a Bollywood romantic drama film that was released in 2018. The film revolves around the central characters, Parthavi and Madhukar, played by Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, respectively. Both the lead actors have done an impressive job in portraying their roles. Here is a character analysis of the two main characters in the film:
Parthavi: Parthavi is a young and spirited girl who is the daughter of a wealthy politician. She is shown as an independent woman who does not believe in blindly following the rules set by society. She has a strong will and determination, which is reflected in her actions throughout the movie. She falls in love with Madhukar, a boy from a lower caste, and decides to run away with him, defying her father's wishes. Parthavi is portrayed as a character who is willing to take risks to pursue what she wants in life. Her character represents the struggles of young women who are caught between the traditions and modernity of Indian society.
Madhukar: Madhukar is a simple boy from a lower caste who falls in love with Parthavi at first sight. He is shown as a soft-spoken and humble person who is willing to do anything for his love. Madhukar is depicted as a character who is willing to break the barriers of caste and class to be with Parthavi. He faces many challenges in his journey to win her love and is willing to fight for their relationship. Madhukar's character is an embodiment of the struggles of young men who are trying to find their place in a society that is deeply divided by caste and class.
After the unexpected commercial success of the 2016 Marathi language film Sairat, producer Karan Johar obtained the Hindi remake rights in November of that year. On November 15, 2017, Johar revealed on his Twitter account that a film starring Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles was in the works, and he released three first look posters to commemorate the occasion. The next day, he published another poster, revealing that the film's tentative title was Dhadak and that it was an official remake of Sairat.Janhvi Kapoor, the daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, makes her film début. Dhadak was supposed to be Khatter's debut feature as well, but he was instead cast in Beyond the Clouds by Majid Majidi. (2018).
Kapoor, who saw Sairat for the first time with her mother Sridevi, expressed a desire to make her film debut with a similar picture. A few days later, on her mother's insistence, Johar approached her about the part of the female lead in the Hindi remake of Sairat. After being approached for the role, Khatter watched Sairat, during which he discovered that Shashank Khaitan was adapting it into a Hindi film. Kapoor expanded and wrote her character's backstory so that the part felt more real to her. Because Dhadak, unlike Sairat, was based in Udaipur, Khaitan took Kapoor and Khatter to Rajasthan and allowed them to spend time with the locals and eat local food in order for them to grasp the background.
Ajay-Atul composed the soundtrack for the film, and Amitabh Bhattacharya wrote the lyrics. John Stewart Eduri wrote the background music. The film's first single, Dhadak, sung by Ajay Gogavale and Shreya Ghoshal, was released on June 20, 2018. The second song, Zingaat, and the third song, Pehli Baar, were remade from Sairat and published on June 27 and July 5, 2018, respectively, with the former being sampled from its eponymous namesake and the latter from Yad Lagla. Zee Music Company published the film's soundtrack album on July 2, 2018. The record was well received.
