Plot
VIDEO Vikram Jaisingh aka Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), a sharp cop with the Homicide Intervention Team (HIT), is revered for his ability to solve crucial cases by capturing even the minutest of details. He's in love with his colleague, Dr. Neha Mehta (Sanya Malhotra), a forensic official. Notwithstanding his prowess, Vikram suffers from PTSD, triggered by past experiences.
Rohit Shukla (Akhil Iyer), a close friend and colleague of Vikram, often assists him in case investigations. Vikram frequently quarrels with another officer, Akshay (Jatin Goswami), who often crosses boundaries with Vikram.
The story unfolds with the disappearance of a girl named Preeti Mathur (Rose Khan), whose car malfunctions on the highway. Officer Ibrahim Sheikh (Milind Gunaji) offers to help her, but she goes missing closing in a mysterious circumstance involving a blue car.
Preeti's parents, incensed by Ibrahim's insensitivity towards their plight, lodge their complaints. As a result, Ibrahim is suspended by Ajit Singh Shekhawat (Dalip Tahil), Vikram's senior, and a family friend of Preeti's parents.
Two months into his six-month break due to PTSD, Vikram receives the news of Dr. Neha's disappearance. Though initially denied access to the case by Ajit, Vikram eventually manages to connect the dots between Preeti and Neha's disappearance cases, suspecting the same perpetrator.
His investigation leads him to interrogate Preeti's friends and neighbours, and he even uncovers a note that hints at Sheela (Shilpa Shukla), Preeti's neighbour, as the potential kidnapper. Vikram and his team unearth Preeti's body, setting the course for a more profound investigation.
The plot thickens when Vikram, with the help of highway toll booth security cameras, identifies Fahad (Raviraj) as the abductor. During their confrontation, Fahad shoots Ibrahim dead before being captured.
The climax unfolds as Vikram discovers Rohit's house as the location where Preeti's abduction was planned. A shocking revelation ensues when Sapna Shukla (Nuveksha), an orphan who nurtured unrequited feelings for Preeti, confesses her part in the scheme. She kidnaps Preeti to express her bottled-up feelings, leading to Preeti's unintended death during the scuffle.
The startling truth reveals that Rohit aided Sapna by arranging Preeti's burial and planting misleading DNA evidence. Sapna finally lands in custody while Vikram attends the funeral of Preeti and Ibrahim. The unforeseeable twist concludes the narrative with Vikram narrowly escaping a gunshot, hinting at an intriguing sequel.

Reviews
HIT: The First Case, a Hindi remake of the 2020 Telugu original, follows the complicated life of a talented detective, Vikram (Rajkummar Rao), who battles PTSD while investigating the disappearance of two women. The movie, directed by Sailesh Kolanu, chooses Rajasthan as its location and maintains the names of the original characters while making subtle changes to the story, leaving room for potential sequels.
Rajkummar Rao portrays the panic attack-stricken detective with poise, and his silent heroism keeps the audience invested. Kolanu's direction in this crime mystery is both sincere and no-nonsense, creating a chaotic world where tension slowly mounts. However, the movie falls short in tying up loose ends and delivering a satisfying climax. The motive of the eventual guilty party appears ludicrous and far-fetched.
The cinematography, which includes aerial shots of the highway, adds depth to the film. The ambiguous glances exchanged between characters and Vikram's anxiety enhances the overall mood. The movie's portrayal of the toxic relationship between Vikram and his insecure co-worker (Jatin Goswami) is intriguing.
However, HIT: The First Case suffers from a few setbacks. The film's pacing appears unhurried and meandering, which makes it hard to classify as a nail-biting thriller. Although the movie evades some stereotypes, it falls into some others, as seen in the inclusion of a love song that is followed by a tragedy. The plot's intriguing build-up is diminished by these elements, and the gay subplot seems grossly misused.
Despite the weaknesses in the script, Rajkummar Rao's acting abilities shine, enhancing the otherwise mediocre storyline. In summary, HIT: The First Case is a hit-and-miss and will likely cater to audiences looking for a slow-burning, complex crime mystery with a memorable lead performance.

Character Analysis
Rajkummar Rao as Inspector Vikram Jaisingh
Inspector Vikram Jaisingh, portrayed by Rajkummar Rao, is the tormented protagonist of HIT: The First Case. Jaisingh is not just a competent investigator, he's a man battling his own internal demons.
Jaisingh suffers from PTSD due to a tragic past that involves the violent death of his wife. His character is nuanced and not limited to just the trope of a brilliant cop solving a puzzling case. Instead, he's a complex figure whose personal struggles become as prominent as the mystery he's trying to solve. Vikram is a character whose brilliance is not depicted at the expense of others but rather benefits from the film's portrayal of all characters as competent.
Rao's performance adds depth to this role. He brings out his vulnerability of Vikram, embodying his fears, hesitations, and immense burden. There is a captivating transparency to his portrayal that makes the audience truly delve into the mind of the protagonist, experiencing his trauma alongside him. The persistent depiction of his PTSD, albeit occasionally repetitive, reaffirms the weight of his past trauma and its deep-seated influence on his present.
Sanya Malhotra as Dr. Neha Mehta
Sanya Malhotra plays the mysterious and somewhat elusive character of Dr. Neha Mehta. As a forensic expert and Vikram's girlfriend, Neha's notable absence lures the audience into the intricacies of the film's storyline.
Unlike Vikram, Neha receives minimal screen presence. However, she utilizes these limited scenes to deliver solid character representation. Despite the lack of bonding scenes, Neha's sudden disappearance effectively unsettles the narrative. Her disconnected presence and conspicuous absence have an uncanny influence on the storyline and the protagonist's quest.
It can be stated that Neha's character serves as a pivotal plot device, fueling the narrative tension and driving Vikram's desperate search. Her character could have been further explored to establish an emotional connection with the audience and provide a depth parallel to Vikram's character.
Both Inspector Vikram Jaisingh and Dr. Neha Mehta depict characters entrenched in a complex narrative dynamic. While further exploration of Neha's character might have increased the emotional intensity of the storyline, together they embody the film's thematic and dramatic undertones.
Sequel?
As the original Telugu movie had a sequel 'HIT: The Second Case,' there are chances that there will Hindi remake of the sequel. However, there is no confirmation of it.
