Plot

The movie Murder 3 revolves around Vikram, a successful fashion and wildlife photographer, who is deeply devastated after his girlfriend, Roshni, seemingly leaves him. In his despair, Vikram meets Nisha, who becomes his new partner and moves into their shared house.

However, Vikram becomes a prime suspect when Roshni mysteriously disappears. Despite being investigated, no evidence is found linking him to her disappearance. As the story progresses, it is revealed that the house they live in has a secret room, which was built to hide a British Army officer during the 1947 partition.

Through a series of flashbacks, it is discovered that Roshni faked her departure as a means of testing Vikram's loyalty. She hides in the secret room, observing his reactions through one-way mirrors. But, Roshni's plan goes awry when she loses the key and becomes trapped inside.

Unaware of Roshni's predicament, Nisha discovers the key but is unaware of its purpose. Eventually, Nisha begins to suspect that Roshni is trapped in the house after hearing her tapping on the pipes. Overwhelmed by jealousy and the fear of losing Vikram, Nisha decides not to rescue Roshni.

However, Nisha's guilt later drives her to open the secret room when investigators provide her with a package containing incriminating images of Vikram with his colleague. At that moment, Roshni, who is desperate to escape, knocks Nisha unconscious and locks her inside the secret room.

After Roshni emerges from the room, she discovers the images and is heartbroken by Vikram's betrayal. She leaves the house but leaves behind a photograph of Vikram and his colleague on the mirror, along with her necklace, as a sign that she has left. Roshni then sends the keys to the investigator who has developed feelings for Nisha.

As the investigator arrives and arrests Vikram, Nisha remains trapped in the secret room. Both Vikram and the investigator are unaware of its existence. The movie concludes with Roshni tearing apart their photograph and driving away alone on a highway, finding solace in leaving the devastated and arrested Vikram behind.

The plot of Murder 3 is a thrilling rollercoaster of love, deception, and moral dilemmas that keeps the audience engaged until the very end.

Review

Murder 3 is the latest installment in the Murder franchise, and it continues to explore themes of love, obsession, and betrayal. The movie presents a story that delves into the deep and dark corners of romantic relationships, exposing the obsessive nature that can often be present. Debutant director Vishesh Bhatt has taken on a challenging task by remaking a Spanish thriller, and he deserves appreciation for creating an eerie setting and somber atmosphere without relying heavily on stylized effects.

The acting performances in Murder 3 are commendable. Randeep Hooda smoothly builds tension with his silent and mysterious portrayal of Vikram, the hotshot wildlife photographer who woos and seduces Nisha, played by Sara Loren. Aditi Rao Hydari impresses with her deranged act and emotional breakdown. While the performances add depth to the characters, Sara Loren's presence mainly adds beauty to the horror of the film.

The direction by Vishesh Bhatt is noteworthy. He skillfully balances the first half, which establishes a comfort zone through songs and romance, with the second half, which takes a terrifying turn with intense emotions and shocking revelations. Bhatt’s approach of relying on the strength of the story rather than using excessive style and effects is commendable.

The story of Murder 3 stands out in the thriller genre. It explores a twisted and complex narrative that keeps the audience engaged. While the movie lacks in grisly murders, it compensates with mystery and suspense. However, it must be noted that the story falters at certain points, resulting in some portions of the movie feeling weaker and less impactful.

In terms of technical aspects, the movie falls short in certain areas. The animation and graphics are not a prominent feature in Murder 3, as it primarily focuses on the psychological and emotional elements of the story. The editing of the film is generally well-done, but there are times when the pace feels inconsistent.

Murder 3 is a movie that will captivate audiences who enjoy twisted and suspenseful narratives. It caters to those who appreciate psychological thrillers over action-driven films. However, viewers who expect explicit eroticism and the stylized effects commonly associated with the Murder franchise may be disappointed.

Overall, Murder 3 is a decent remake with engaging performances, a compelling story, and a unique take on the murder-mystery genre. While it may not satisfy all audiences, it is worth a watch for those who enjoy psychological thrillers with a touch of darkness.

Critical Review

The movie Murder 3 received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised it for being a thrilling and well-narrated story, while others found it lacking in certain aspects.

Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave it a high rating of 4 out of 5, describing it as one of the finest thrillers to come out of Vishesh Films. He commended the story and the enthusiastic delivery, congratulating Vishesh Bhatt on a successful directorial debut.

Madhureeta Mukherjee of The Times Of India gave it a middle-of-the-road rating of 3 out of 5. She acknowledged the twisted nature of the movie but noted that it wasn't a typical romantic film.

Komal Nahta found Murder 3 to be a fair entertainer overall but did not provide an explicit rating.

Nabanita of OneIndia gave it a rating of 3 out of 5, mentioning that the film had its thrills but failed to captivate the audience fully.

Roshni Devi of Koimoi rated it 2.5 out of 5, stating that the movie is worth watching.

Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV also gave it a rating of 2.5/5. He described it as a thriller that fluctuated between taut and toxic moments and had enough impact to keep the audience engaged, even if it didn't completely sweep them off their feet. He highlighted the film's departure from the overt eroticism of the Murder franchise, the stronger emotional backbone, and the substantial female character development.

Anupama Chopra gave it a rating of 2/5, expressing that with a bit more imagination, Murder 3 could have been a deliciously dark film.

Sukanya Verma for Rediff.com rated it 2/5, highlighting the presence of poorly-acted thrills in the movie.

Overall, the critical reviews were mixed, with some praising Murder 3 for its thrilling narrative and enthusiastic delivery, while others found it lacking in certain areas such as character portrayals and imaginative execution.
