A group of college students have a picnic in the forest near Ooty. Nisha, one of the females, passes away mysteriously. When she was transported to the hospital after viciously attacking her partner, her face and voice completely altered shortly before she passed away, baffling the medical staff. Police ask Professor Agni Swaroop, a purported authority on the paranormal, to investigate the situation. Swaroop concludes after looking into it that she was possessed by a bad spirit. He makes it clear that this spirit has a mission and won't quit until it is achieved.

The focus of the narrative shifts to Sanjana and Aditya Dhanraj in Mumbai. Aditya appears preoccupied during a professional gathering and ignores his wife. As she rushes home after leaving the party, she hears a voice in her mind and loses control of the vehicle. She is able to avoid serious injury in the collision. Sanjana requests a divorce from her husband once she recovers, but Aditya understands his error and recommends a trip to sort out their differences. To save their failing marriage, Sanjana decides to go back to Ooty, where their connection initially started. They occupy the same cottage that Nisha was attacked behind. The pair initially love their visit, but Sanjana begins to have strange experiences, such as hearing a lady scream in the wilderness. Aditya, on the other hand, dismisses her worries and attributes everything to Sanjana's addiction to sleeping medications. She finds out that their previous caretaker Robert has stopped coming to the house to clean and has vanished without a trace from another cleaning crew that comes on Aditya's command. Sanjana chooses to go see Robert's wife, who informs her that Robert changed and started to get frightened anytime anybody would bring up the guest home. She also revealed that he, like Sanjana, used to hear weird sounds coming from the jungle before one day they just vanished. Aditya and Sanjana come to an understanding with the aid of their friends.

When Sanjana informs her friend Priya about these peculiar occurrences, Priya suggests that she should see Professor Swaroop. When Swaroop comes, he declares that there is a ghost in the home. He offers Sanjana a lemon before departing and tells her to check on it after dusk. If the colour stays the same, there is nothing to be concerned about; but, if the colour changes to red, an evil spirit is nearby. After seeing the lemon turn red, a frantic Sanjana runs to Aditya, who is in the middle of a conference, and informs him that their house is haunted. Aditya, however, doesn't really buy it and scolds the Professor for preying on his wife's fears and sympathies. The pair must return due to an urgent call from Mumbai, but they become stranded on the roadway due to the landslide. They ultimately decide that Aditya would return to Mumbai on his own and will arrive later to pick up Sanjana. After he departs, Sanjana is adamantly against going with Priya because she wants to know the truth. She has a horrifying night's end. The following evening, Professor Swaroop, Priya, and Sanjana return to the same area of the forest where Nisha was assaulted. Sanjana follows his advice and travels alone to the ghost's house where she finds a handgun. When they visit an armoury, the proprietor informs them that the revolver was licenced to a retired colonel by the name of Arjun Malik. When they go to the colonel's home, they discover that the ghost is actually his daughter Malini, who was mentally ill and had previously made multiple escape attempts from the mental hospital before one day she just vanished. The colonel informs them that his revolver also vanished starting on that day.

Sanjana calls the ghost forth, thinking it has something for her to learn. She finds out that Aditya and Malini had an adulterous relationship; when she confronts Aditya about it, he admits to the relationship and says he had stayed in this particular cottage. Malini was furious with Aditya for rejecting her requests that he leave his wife, so she killed herself in front of him to accuse him of murder. Robert assisted Aditya in burying the body in the woods. Sanjana ends their relationship. In order to take Aditya with her into the hereafter, Malini's ghost made an effort to split Sanjana and Aditya, according to Swaroop. He thinks they should get to him before Malini assaults him because he thinks the ghost would murder Aditya next. Aditya is approached by Sanjana, who informs him that she is acting just to protect him and urges them to leave right once for Mumbai. Sanjana is later revealed to be Malini's ghost in disguise. The confused maid informs the genuine Sanjana, Priya, and Swaroop upon their arrival at the cottage that Aditya had just gone with her.

Their automobile crashes off a cliff due to Malini's ghost, and Aditya is taken to the hospital. Sanjana, Priya, and Swaroop explore the jungle in search of the girl's body to burn in order to dispel the ghost. Swaroop uses a lemon strung on a thread to find the body because he thinks it will turn red when they get close enough. When Swaroop was finally found, he went back to the car to grab more kerosene and matches, but Malini's ghost killed him and assumed his appearance, assaulting the two girls. Sanjana discovers Robert's dead body hanging from a tree while she is being chased. She burns Malini's body to the ground using a fuel can. Sanjana and Aditya are eventually reunited.

Character Analysis

Bipasha Basu as Sanjana Dhanraj

At the start of the story, Sanjana comes off as a loving and loyal wife who is doing her best to patch up her strained relationship with Aditya. Despite the difficulties they experience, she is madly in love with him and wants to keep their marriage together. Sanjana's scepticism eventually gives way to fear and anxiety when weird events take place all around her, though. Bipasha Basu does a good job of portraying how her character changes, really expressing her fragility and suffering.

When the audience finds out about Aditya's adulterous relationship with Malini, the spirit haunting their life, they realise how terribly damaged Aditya's character is. Dino Morea does a commendable job of capturing Aditya's internal conflict and remorse as he considers the effects of his decisions, despite his dubious acts.
