A group of policemen from the police force's Crime Investigation Department seek the assistance of a skilled forensic specialist in order to solve numerous criminal cases. The first fascinating investigative series on Indian television is also one of Sony Entertainment Television's most popular programmes. CID has captured audiences over the last twenty years and continues to keep people riveted to their television sets with its fascinating stories and excitement. The personal issues that the CID team experiences with non-stop adventure, immense pressure, and risk, all in the name of duty, are also intertwined in its fast-paced narratives. The series is made up of hard-boiled police procedural stories about investigation, detection, and suspense.
The series protagonists are a select group of cops from the Crime Investigation Department lead by ACP Pradyuman (played by the energetic Shivaji Satam). ACP Pradyuman was the head of the CID team, known for his calm and composed demeanor, as well as his sharp investigative skills. He played a pivotal role in solving complex criminal cases with the help of his team of officers, which included Senior Inspector Daya, Inspector Abhijeet, and others. Each episode of CID followed a similar format, where the CID team would be assigned a new case, and they would work together to investigate the crime scene, gather clues, and analyze evidence. While the scenarios are believable, there is a focus on dramatic plotting and the technical complexity that the police face. The plot throws up exciting twists and turns at every stage, keeping the officers on the go as they chase crooks led by the slightest of evidence.
The show aired on Sony TV in 1998 at Prime time slot 9 pm. However, the show's on-air time moved over the years, and the last season was on the air from 11 pm to 12 am.Each episode of the show is of the time limit of 40-45 minutes. CID series also runs on channels such as Sony Pal from 3 - 6 pm every Monday- Friday. Besides the regular show time, the channel also has day-long re-runs of the show from 1:30 pm to 9 pm on a few days.

ACP Pradyuman, full name Anjan Pradyuman, was the head of the CID team.He was known for his calm and composed demeanor, and his ability to keep a level head during challenging investigations. ACP Pradyuman had excellent deductive skills and leadership qualities, guiding his team in solving complex cases. He was often seen wearing a formal attire of a shirt, tie, and blazer. ACP Pradhyuman is famous for his one-liner Kuch Tho Ghabad Hai Daya, which translates into Daya, something that is fishy here. The intelligent CID officer heads the bureau and enjoys solving crimes. His unique hand gestures, body language, and how he runs his fingers on his temple while trying to solve a crime send chills down the spine of even hardened criminals.
A core member of the CID team, Senior Inspector Daya (Portrayed by Dayanand Shetty is a man who is famous for knocking down doors with his upper body strength. His punch line, Jab Daya ka hath padta hai, to muh ke andar daaton se piano bajne lagta hai, (roughly translates to- when Daya slaps you, all the teeth in your mouth start falling apart like someone's playing piano with them), has a massive fan base. Senior Insppector Daya was one of the key members of the CID team. Daya was a loyal and brave officer, known for his dedication to solving cases. He has made many hardened criminals on the show confess to their crimes. While he is one of the team's strongest and most well-built people, he is also the most compassionate. He is always there by his team's side when they need something.
Inspector Abhijeet (Portrayed by Aditya Srivastava) was another integral part of the CID team. He was a brilliant and skilled investigator with a keen eye for details and forensics. Abhijeet had a reserved and serious demeanor, contrasting with Daya's physical strength and ACP Pradyuman's calmness. One of the smartest but most impulsive members of the CID team is Sr. Inspector Abhijeet. While he has a knack for looking for clues in the most unexpected places, his Achilles heel is his memory issue. He has a huge crush on Dr Tarika, the forensic expert.
Inspector Fredricks was one of the supporting characters in the CID team.He was a diligent and hardworking officer, often assisting in gathering evidence and supporting the main investigators.
Dr R. P. Salunkhe: Dr R. P. Salunkhe is ACP Pradhuyman's close aide, often seen in the cloister of his forensic lab. He is a forensics genius who could help the team solve even the gravest of crimes using the clues available. Dr. Salunkhe was the forensic expert on the CID team. He played a crucial role in analyzing evidence and providing scientific insights to solve cases. Dr. Salunkhe was known for his vast knowledge in forensic science and pathology.
Dr. Tarika joined the CID team later in the series as another forensic expert. She worked closely with Dr. Salunkhe, adding a new dynamic to the forensic investigations.
