Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (transl.Taarak Mehta's inverted spectacles; sometimes abbreviated as TMKOC) is an Indian television sitcom that airs on Sony Sab and digitally available on Sony Liv app. It is based on the weekly column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma by Tarak Mehta in Chitralekha magazine, produced by Asit Kumarr Modi. The show aired on 28 July 2008, produced by Neela Tele Films. The show stars Dilip Joshi, Disha Vakani,Nitish Bhaluni , Amit Bhatt, Tanuj Mahashabde, and Munmun Dutta in lead roles.
The show revolves around families that live in a middle-class housing colony in Mumbai. The plot borrows from a story series that appeared in a Gujarati daily newspaper, Chitralekha. The show is based on circumstantial comedy, which occurs when the various characters in this colony interact, causing slapstick humour. The show has become a cult classic with its catchphrases and numerous ongoing gags, which are now part of almost every Indian household.

The series is set in the Gokuldham Co-operative Society, an apartment building in Powder Gali, Goregaon East, Mumbai, and revolves around the Gada Family, which consists of successful businessman Jethalal Champaklal Gada, his father Champaklal Jayantilal Gada, his wife Daya, and their mischievous son Tipendra Gada (Tapu), who is the head of his friend group known as Tapu Sena.In an attempt to keep an eye on Tapu, Jethalal calls his father Champaklal, but instead Tapu joins hands with him. The majority of the episodes center around Jethalal getting into a jam and Taarak Mehta, his best buddy, getting him out of it. Jethalal refers to Taarak as the "Fire Brigade."
The program addresses current, socially significant issues. The people of Gokuldham encounter issues in daily life and come up with funny solutions that also have a moral component. The show primarily focuses on the lives of the families of Jethalal Champaklal Gada, a Gujarati; Taarak Mehta, a Rajasthani; Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide, a Marathi; Dr. Hansraj Hathi, a Bihari overweight doctor; Krishnan Iyer, a scientist from Chennai but with a Bengali wife; Roshan Singh Sodhi, A Punjabi but with a Parsi wife; and Patrak To encourage unity in diversity, they constantly assist one another with their issues.
The show airs on weekdays from Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm IST on Sony Sab. The repeat telecast of the show is at 2:55 am, 9:30 am, and 11:30 pm.

The simpleton of the Gokuldham society Jethalal Champaklal Gada is an honest businessman played by Dilip Joshi . He is a caring father, a loving husband, and an ideal son. However, he is lazy and reckless and loves starting his day late. He is a huge foodie who enjoys meals made by his wife Daya and nurses a crush on his hot neighbour Babita. He nurses a petty rivalry with Mr Iyer, the husband of Babita, and is close friends with Taarak Mehta. Jethalal dresses up in flamboyant shirts that reflect his rural upbringing. Despite being an adult, he still fears his father, who always continues to scold him and seldom supports him in arguments.
Daya Jethalal Gada, or Dayaben, who is played by Disha Vakani is famous as the Garba queen of the Gokuldham Society. A typical homemaker, she is dedicated and responsible and keeps herself busy trying to cater to the needs of her family members. Her innocence, exceptional culinary skills, and enthusiasm make her everyone's favourite in the housing society. While she is a simpleton, she is also brave when needed. This was demonstrated in the episode where she fights off the Chaddi Gang.
Tipendra Jethalal Tapu Gada who is played by Nitesh Bhluni is the young son of Jethala and Daya. While his father walks on eggshells around his dad, Tapu is very close to his grandfather, Champaklal. He comes across as a naughty prankster who creates trouble for everyone in the housing society. However, that is not all about him. Tapu is also good at academics and sports, making him well-rounded. While he was a menace to the housing society growing up, he now helps the people in the locality by solving their miscellaneous problems.
Sachin Shroff who plays the role of Taarak Mehta, the show's titular character, is a writer and a poet. He is famous for finding quick solutions to all his and his friends problems. He is modern, open-minded, and deeply in love with his beloved wife, Anjali Mehta. He finds interesting excuses to avoid the diet food she prepares to indulge in some mouth-watering delicacies of his choice.
Tanuj Mahashbade who plays tthe role of Krishnan Iyer was born and raised in Chennai, Krishnan Subramaniam Iyer is a rocket and chemical scientist. Being dark-complexioned and unable to speak Hindi, he indulges in numerous wars of words with Jethalal. Iyer is very possessive and never shies away from expressing his love for his wife, Babita.
Munmun Dutta who plays the role of Mrs. Babita Iyer, wife of Krishnan Iyer. She is potrayed as a smart, educated, and intelligent women and the most attractive women in the Gokuldham Co-operative Housing Society, Mumbai. She is fluent in numerous languages, including Hindi, English, and Bengali, and enjoys spending time with the women at her Mahila Mandal.
