After a much-anticipated wait, 'Made In Heaven' returns with its second season, promising more opulence, drama, and a deeper exploration into the lives of our beloved characters. Season one left us at the edge of our seats, unraveling the contradictions and chaos that lie beneath the glamourous façade of extravagant Indian weddings.

Developed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, the series navigates the lives of Tara (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Karan (Arjun Mathur), innovative wedding planners at their flourishing company - 'Made In Heaven'. Through their professional lives, the show also depicts their tumultuous personal lives, balancing their struggles and ambitions with the realities of contemporary Indian society. Season two, after completing its filming in April 2022, was released on 10 August 2023.

Made In Heaven' unfolds the story of two Delhi-based wedding planners, Tara and Karan, who grapple with an intertwining mix of tradition, modern aspirations, secrets, and lies in their personal and professional lives. The series paints a vivid portrait of how tradition jostles with modernity in dramatic, 'big fat' Indian weddings.

As the show delves deeper into their lives, the seemingly liberal fabric of the wealthy, upper crust of society unravels. Touching upon poignant issues like arranged marriages, dowry transactions, and virginity tests, the show offers an unfiltered look at the stark realities and societal pressures that often lurk beneath the glamorous surface of extravagant nuptials.

Tara and Karan, navigating through a minefield of personal dilemmas and professional challenges. Will they continue to orchestrate perfect weddings while their lives become increasingly complicated? How will they handle the mounting pressures of their personal struggles and secrets, amidst handling high-profile clients, overflowing emotions, and society's labyrinthine rules?

The announcement for the second season took place on July 6, 2023, and its trailer was unveiled on August 1, 2023. Subsequently, the second season became available for viewing on August 10, 2023.

• Sobhita Dhulipala as Tara Khanna - Sobhita Dhulipala is an Indian actress, voice actor, fashion model, and classical dancer who has performed in roles in the Bollywood, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam film industries in India. Raman Raghav 2.0, directed by Anurag Kashyap, served as Dhulipala's acting debut before she went on to star in the drama series Made in Heaven on Amazon Prime Video. Dhulipala later made appearances in the Telugu films Major and Goodachari, the Malayalam films Moothon and Kurup, the Tamil epics Ponniyin Selvan: I and II, and The Night Manager.
• Arjun Mathur as Karan Mehra - British-born Indian actor Arjun Mathur is a candidate for an International Emmy. On several high-profile Indian films, like Bunty Aur Babli and Rang De Basanti, he served as assistant director. He portrays the main character in the Made in Heaven Amazon Original series. 
• Kalki Koechlin as Faiza Naqvi - French actress and writer Kalki Koechlin appears in Hindi-language films. She made her feature film debut in 2009's drama Dev.D as Chanda, for which she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Both the romantic comedy plays Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara earned nominations for Best Supporting Actress at Filmfare. With the 2011 murder thriller That Girl in Yellow Boots, in which she also starred, Koechlin broadened her screenplay career.
• Jim Sarbh as Adil Khanna - Jim Sarbh is a theatre and film actor-director from India. As the adversary in the critically acclaimed and financially successful biopic Neerja, Sarbh makes his feature film debut. He became well-known for his combative parts in the biography Sanju and the historical epic Padmaavat. Additionally, he appeared in films like Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rocket Boys, and A Death in the Gunj. 
• Shashank Arora as Kabir Basrai - A musician and actor, Shashank Arora. His performances in Titli, Brahman Naman, Moothon, and Made in Heaven are well-known. He has had two films compete at Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, and one at Sundance. He is the only Indian actor to have done this.
• Shivani Raghuvanshi as  Jaspreet Kaur - Actress Shivani Raghuvanshi is from India. She made her acting debut in the 2014 dark comedy Titli, and for her part in the online series Made in Heaven, she gained more exposure.

Character Analysis

Tara Khanna (Sobhita Dhulipala)

In the second season, Tara is seen grappling with her life after divorce from her multimillionaire husband, Adil. Despite the pain, she remains committed to her work at Made in Heaven. In her public struggle, Tara is a poignant picture of resilience. Through her character, the makers continue their exploration of the struggles faced by women in an elite, patriarchal society.

Karan Mehra (Arjun Mathur)

Karan's journey takes a drastic turn in the new season. Though openly and proudly gay after a hard-won public battle, he internally battles his mother's hatred and his own grief. His struggle, though largely internal and deeply private, adds another profound layer to his character arc.

Jaspreet “Jazz” Kaur (Shivani Raghuvanshi)

Starting from her working-class roots, Jazz's ambition to erase her modest past heightens in the second season. She continues to grow, discover herself, and stay true to her identity without apologies. Her character, as explored in the review, represents the modern-day Indian youth, filled with aspiration and unapologetic about their ambitions.

Bulbul (Mona Singh)

Bulbul, a new character, joins as Made In Heaven's new auditor. Wife of a company investor, Bulbul's complex past gradually unfolds, bringing her closer to her colleagues. Her intent to disrupt MIH's way of doing business adds an interesting dynamic to the overall series narrative.

Meher Chaudhary (Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju)

Season two introduces us to another new character, Meher, portrayed by a trans woman actor. As the head of production at Made in Heaven, Meher emanates confidence and doesn't tolerate any disrespect. Her character brings forth the prejudices and bias against trans women, significantly portraying the strength and resilience of trans women in India.

Tara Khanna and Adil's Divorce

Tara's journey continues as she and her husband, Adil, grapple with the collapse of their marriage following extramarital affairs and a leaked sex tape. Tara, who manipulated her way into the elite Khanna family, realizes her control isn't as firm as she assumed. She agrees to Adil's lawyer's terms for divorce - until she realizes that Adil has moved on quickly with her former best friend, Faiza, who is now expecting his child. Battling feelings of betrayal and resentment, she decides to renegotiate the terms - aiming for the Khanna mansion.

Karan's Inner Battle

Karan battles inner conflicts as his mother is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, battling with the heavy emotional brunt of the situation.

Jazz's Uncertainty

Meanwhile, Jazz grapples with her changing circumstances, her struggle for certainty becoming more evident this season.

Bulbul Jauhari’s Past

Bulbul, the wife of Ramesh Jauhari and a new addition to the 'Made in Heaven' accounts team, has a complex past that's gradually unveiled. She was once married to a man who regularly abused her, to the point where she fatally stabbed him out of self-defense. The revelations from her past significantly add depth and emotional context to her character.

Meher’s Love Story

As a trans woman, Meher has always found love elusive, her encounters often revealing predatory ulterior motives. However, she finally finds comfort and companionship in Danish - leading to a promising romantic relationship that provides a sensitive portrayal of Meher’s journey as a trans woman.

Behind the scenes

Bhawna approached top Indian couturiers like Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahiliani, Gaurav Gupta, Gaurang Shah, and Manish Malhotra for the bridal looks. The result? Custom-designed, breathtaking outfits that were no less than wearable art! The show's team worked closely with a range of design houses to craft not only the brides' magnificence but also the accompanying family portraits. 

Playing a crucial role in Indian wedding attire, noteworthy jewellery selections were made in collaboration with renowned Indian jewellers. Precious jewellery pieces gave the family portraits the desired touch of wealth and refinement, something costume jewellery would not have achieved. For the brides, notable traditional wedding jewellery brands were roped in, and for the other characters, luxury jewellery brands were incorporated.
