Introduction 

Factors like the festive atmosphere, love for tennis etc. are drawing tennis fans from the US and the world over to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre for the final grand slam of the year – the US Open Championship.

In the Men's finals at US Open in 2022, the duel was between Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruudd. The crowd at Arthur Ashe stadium watched the thrilling 5-set match that lasted 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The two opponents fought with equal speed, agility, energy, contact, and baseline and frontcourt prowess as the Arther Ashe stadium crowd watched in awe.

The result was that the 19-year-old from Spain, Casper Ruud, triumphed over Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1), 6-3.

In the US Open Women's Championships in 2022, Ons Jabeur fought hard against Iga Swiatek. She scored 12 points by hitting five winners, but the French Open champion overcame the challenge and won the US Open Championship in 2022.

She became the youngest women's champion at the US Open since 2000 and the second to win two grand slams in a year.

 The overall payout at the US Open is $42.68M, higher than any other grand slam. The first-round loser is $58k, and second-round loser, is $1M, and the US Open Champion takes home $3.85M.

The US Open trophy is 18 inches in height and weighs 10 pounds, and since 1987 Tiffany & Co has been its official producer.

Thanks to Billy Jean King's threat to boycott in 1973, there is no difference in the prize money for men and women, and both sexes get the trophy.

History  

The US Open is the last tennis grand slam of the year after the French Open, Australian Open, and Wimbledon. Established in 1881, it is also the oldest tennis tournament in the world.

Initially, it was an opportunity for the US National Lawn Tennis Association (USLTA) club members to compete with each other, but it was a men-only competition. The US Open women's championships began only in 1887

Subsequently, USLTA introduced the US Open mixed doubles in 1892. Thus they were five championships (men's and women's singles and men's, women's and mixed doubles), and they played them in five different venues until 1968. 

From 1968 all the matches for the five championships were played in Forrest hills at Queens in New York at Westside Tennis Club. That's also when it got its name as US Open.

The organisers estimate a crowd of approximately 7M to be present in the stands cheering for their favourite tennis player.

But the prices of the tickets can be steep - the ground pass could cost about $70, and a seat in the stadium could cost thousands. 

And, of course, spectators can get the best view by buying a ticket for the most coveted seats, but they will cost much.
