 83 was written and directed by Kabir khan. It is a 2021 Indian sports drama film produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Reliance Entertainment. The film's story and dialogues were co-written by Khan, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, Vasan Bala, and Sumit Arora, and are based on the India national cricket team captained by Kapil Dev, which won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Rob Miller directed the film's sports action. Ranveer Singh, Jiiva, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, and R. Badree are among the ensemble cast members.

Phantom Films, which owned the film's rights, together with co-producers Madhu Mantena and Vishnu Vardhan Induri, met with the Indian team of 1983 and its star player Kapil Dev in mid-July 2016 and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to make the official biography. Reliance Entertainment joined the film's producers in September 2017 and officially launched the biopic alongside members of the winning team, including Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan. The film began main photography on 5 June 2019, after an intensive casting and pre-production process, and was primarily shot in and around England for three months, with a brief schedule in India, before wrapping on 7 October.

The film follows the journey of the Indian cricket team, captained by Kapil Dev, to victory in the 1983 World Cup. On June 25, 1983, 11 men defeated the twice-over World Champions West Indies at Lord's Cricket Ground, decisively establishing India on the international cricket stage.
