At the beginning of the movie Atrangi Re, we see Rinku and her partner attempt to flee, but her own relatives track them down. Vishu and his friend Madhusudhan observe Rinku hurling bottles at the guys. Rinku's grandma wants her to marry any boy, regardless of caste or creed, when she returns home. 

Vishu is about to wed Mandakini, but the goons abduct him and compel him to wed Rinku even though Madhusudhan was their intended target. After getting married, Rinku and Vishu move to Delhi where they plan to divorce because they don't think their union is legal. The film focuses on their love as well as their afterlife.
