Barrister Babu Plot

Aniruddh Roy Choudhary, a 22-year-old barrister, returns from London to Tulsipur, a village where his family practises zamindari, in the pre-independence era of rural Bengal, with the goal of eradicating traditions and social mores that impede the advancement of women.

He will wed Saudamini Bhaumik, his childhood sweetheart. A 12-year-old Bengali Hindu girl named Bondita Das lives with her widowed mother Sumati, maternal uncle Sundaram, aunt Devoleena, and cousin Sampoorna in the meanwhile. Sundaram and Devoleena made the decision to arrange Bondita's marriage to an elderly man in order to raise money for Sampoorna's dowries while she was being married to Aniruddh's best buddy Saurabh.
