The official MC or emcee of a ceremony, staged event, conference, or comparable performance is known as the master of ceremonies (MC) or master of ceremonies (emcee).

Since the fifth century, the phrase has been used in the Catholic Church, where the master of ceremonies is a member of the Papal Court in charge of ensuring the proper and orderly execution of complicated rituals involving the pope and the sacred liturgy.

During a formal state event, especially in monarchies, the master of ceremonies may also refer to the protocol officer.

Today, the phrase is frequently used to refer to a person who introduces performers, addresses the crowd, amuses guests, and overall maintains the flow of an event. This phrase is used in the entertainment sector, such as when referring to game show presenters on television, as well as in modern hip hop and electronic dance music culture.

‘MC’ also refers to rap artists or performers who provide vocals for creative content by themselves or by other artists in hip-hop and electronic dance music.

Emcees have now become very popular because of the rise of reality shows. Emcees are often now considered celebs as well. A few famous celeb emcees include Terry Crews, Pete Davidson, and even a few Indians such as Simran Ahuja and Shruti Kulshrestha.
