Young and spoiled Mukul Ahuja is the stepson of Neeraj Ahuja and the son of Avantika Ahuja. Zara Ahuja, a child celebrity who appears in a series, is Neeraj's daughter. Zara's income essentially provides for the Ahuja family. One evening, Mukul and Zara leave their villa separately but eventually wind up at the same party. Before they leave the party, they get into a significant public argument. 

Zara leaves without coming back home, but Mukul returns to his house. Later, her body is discovered in the sea, drowned, with acid burns to her face. All circumstantial evidence points to Mukul, who has been detained and lodged in a juvenile detention facility. After consulting with him, his parents appoint defense counsel Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi). The entirety of the legal proceedings forms the crux of the series.
