The doctor is a designation or a title used in academia that has its roots in a Latin word with the same spelling and meaning. The verb docēre, which means "to instruct," is the root of the word, which was originally an agentive noun.

The title "Dr." or "Dr." is used to designate someone who has earned a doctorate (commonly a Ph.D.). Regardless of whether they have a doctoral degree, medical professionals use it in many regions of the world.

Here we have doctors who have created a face for themselves even on social media and community. Aashna Kanchwala, Mekhala Bawsay, Sumelika Das, Megha Nagpal, Shakshi Sakaria, Afriyna Ashraf, etc are doctors who are content creators and influence many.

Alongside their profession, some doctors are also TV actors like Dr. Ashish Gokhale, Dr. Varun Katyal, Dr. Disha Dinakar, etc.

In India, competent professionals in the disciplines of allopathic medicine (MBBS), dentistry (BDS), yoga and naturopathy (BNYS), Ayurveda (BAMS), Unani (BUMS), and homeopathy (BHMS), as well as veterinarians (BVSc), and those with doctoral degrees, including PhDs and PharmDs, use the title. Physiotherapists (BPT) use the suffix "Doctor" after the prefix "PT."

While the Supreme Court of India disallowed physiotherapists from using the title as a prefix, the use by pharmacists is challenged in law.
