The 2011 Hindi-language action thriller film Don 2: The King Is Back, often referred to as Don 2, was written, co-produced, and directed by Farhan Akhtar. It is the second instalment in The Don series. Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Om Puri, Rajesh Khattar, Boman Irani, and Kunal Kapoor appear in the movie, which is co-produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment. It has an IMDb rating of 7 out of 10.

The story of the movie is set five years after the events of the last movie, when Don, a strong and cunning drug lord, plots to take control of the European crime syndicate. Roma has joined Interpol in the interim to find him.

Five years after the events of Don, the movie begins. The leaders of the European drug cartels convene on a yacht in the French Riviera to discuss a new threat coming from Asia: Don is endangering their profits by undercutting their prices, so they decide he must be killed. Don, who has spent the last five years in Thailand, travels to a rural community to pick up a consignment of cocaine. He is cornered by his own accomplices, who tell him that when he is slain, Asia's cocaine will be available for purchase in Europe, and they will take the profits for themselves. Killing all of his allies and destroying the entire settlement, Don makes his way outside.

Later, Don returns to Malaysia and hands himself in to Inspector Malik and Roma, who has joined Interpol. He is given a death sentence and imprisoned, where he runs into an old foe named Vardhaan. Vardhaan initially tries to get even with Don for locking him up five years prior, but when Don gives him the chance to flee with him, he mends his ways. In order to escape, Don and Vardhaan poison the other prisoners.

Don meets up with Ayesha in Zurich, and together they remove a tape from a safe whose key belonged to Vardhaan. It demonstrates J.K. Diwan, vice-president of the Euro-printing DZB, paying Singhania to assassinate James Werden, the DZB's initial presidential candidate, so that Diwan's superior, Fabian Kohl, would take over as leader of the organisation. Vardhaan murdered Singhania five years prior. In order to steal the printing plates, Don uses extortion to persuade Diwan to hand him the bank's blueprints. Diwan provides him with false plans and recruits the lethal assassin Abdul Jabbar. Don somehow manages to get away, and Diwan hands him the original plans out of desperation.

After discovering evidence of Diwan's involvement with Don in some illicit activity, Roma and Malik, who have just arrived in Berlin, question him ineffectively while Don and his colleagues carry out a bank robbery. Don is betrayed by Vardhaan and Jabbar after stealing the printing plates, but he manages to flee. Don gets detained after another team member, Sameer, reports him to the authorities. In order to get German immunity, Don blackmails Diwan into removing the proof that he was responsible for James Warden's death. Then he bargains with Interpol and the German police for the plates and a disc containing information about the European underworld in exchange for the release of the hostages and disarming the bank bombs.

After deadly struggle with Vardhan's men, Don and Roma arrive to Vardhan and find themselves in a stalemate. Roma is unable to kill Don despite orders from Vardhaan and Jabbar as well as Don himself, and Jabbar shoots her as a result. She still has love for Don despite the fact that he murdered her brother and his fiancee five years prior and does not want to kill him in a criminal manner. Vardhaan is subdued by Don, who also kills Jabbar. In accordance with the agreement, he collects his immunity documents and turns over the plates and disc. Before the doors of the ambulance that Don is transporting Roma to close, they exchange glances.

The police are horrified to learn that Diwan and Kohl were responsible for Werden's murder when they subsequently look into the evidence. Later, he explodes a bomb that was previously hidden in Diwan's automobile. One of the currency plates, which the authorities assume was destroyed in the explosion, is later shown to still be in Don's possession. In reality, Sameer was Don's loyalist, and telling the police was a part of the strategy. The identities of the European drug gang are indeed on the DVD Don handed over. After being revealed, Kohl is quickly taken into custody as well, and the DZB is compelled to take his position. Don tells Ayesha and Sameer they have no clue how wealthy they would become after they are arrested and after becoming the ruler of the European underworld.
