A 2015 Hindi-language action film titled Gabbar Is Back was produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, and written by Rajat Arora. Kareena Kapoor, Suman Talwar, Ishita Vyas, and Shruti Bapna play supporting roles alongside Akshay Kumar and Shruti Haasan in the movie. It has an IMDb rating of 7.1 out of 10.

The police learn that 10 tehsildars in Maharashtra have been abducted inexplicably. The most dishonest officer, however, is hanged before they are mystifyingly returned. The police get a CD from a mysterious individual named 'Gabbar,' who claims his goal is to take down corrupt police personnel. Despite the humiliation and abuse, he receives from his higher officers in front of the other officers, police driver Sadhuram is confident he can solve the enigma of who Gabbar is.

While he is teaching his Physics lesson to the pupils at National Campus, professor Aditya thrashes thugs who attempt to damage college property. While on his way home, he meets Shruti, a young lawyer, who is rushing to take a pregnant woman to the hospital. When the woman's water breaks, Shruti sends Aditya out, claiming to be familiar with the birth procedure. They proceed to the hospital after successful delivery, but before Shruti can thank Aditya, she discovers that he has left. After a fight a few days later, she runs across Aditya once again, and they start dating. Sadhuram is persuaded that each of these honest cops has a connection to Gabbar after learning that there is one honest officer in every department throughout the state.

When Shruti gets harmed in an accident while Aditya and Shruti are leaving a roadside restaurant one day, Aditya transports Shruti to the Patil Hospital, where a female doctor insists on performing numerous tests despite Shruti's minor injuries. Aditya hears a doctor try to recommend the relatively pricey Caesarean section delivery and is quickly persuaded of the medical staff's dirty practices when he observes a father-daughter pair being notified of the mother's death only after the pricey bill has been paid. He purposefully registers a poor woman's deceased husband as a patient; the hospital, not realising his trap, tries to defraud Aditya by pretending to treat the deceased guy and making him pay a lot for tests and medications.

Aditya, however, demonstrates to them the death certificate as evidence of their willful admission of a deceased man. Vikas Patil, the hospital's youthful owner, is incensed when Aditya, despite their agreement, leaks the video showing the facility's wrongdoing to the media. When the outraged public murders Vikas, his father Digvijay Patil witnesses Aditya in the hospital CCTV tape and realises that this is the same person he had allegedly slain five years before.

Aditya's pregnant wife Sunaina perished when the buildings in their colony fell, killing hundreds of other people as well, it is revealed in a flashback. Digvijay, the builder, bribed everyone and tried to bribe Aditya as well by giving Rs. 10 million to settle the dispute; however, Aditya scorned the offer by attacking everyone in the room and almost killing Digvijay. Aditya gathered evidence of the defective constructions against Digvijay. When he begged for forgiveness, Aditya spared him, but Digvijay viciously responded by striking him with an axe and leaving him for dead. Aditya was discovered on a highway unconscious and saved by a bus full of medical students.

He then made the decision to recruit National College-trained students who were idealistic, youthful, and honest to his cause. Sadhuram discovers that all of the honourable officers graduated from National College in the meantime. Shruti is astonished when she learns that Aditya is the true Gabbar, but she supports him when he tells her the truth.

Kuldeep Pahwa, a CBI official, takes command of the case and is perplexed by the circumstances. After hearing what Sadhuram has discovered, he orders the arrest of the National College students he has named. However, after being thrashed, the students remain silent regarding Gabbar, further infuriating him. Shruti explains to Kuldeep that because the law is ineffective, vigilantes like Gabbar have gained popularity among the people. Sadhuram's opinion on Gabbar has altered. To intimidate others into approving his flawed development designs, Digvijay murders an upright officer. Gabbar criticises Digvijay for what he did. Digvijay hosts a birthday celebration for himself and recognises Aditya as he slices the cake. He is abducted by Aditya and his gang.

Aditya kills Digvijay in a struggle that breaks out between the two as police unsuccessfully search the city for the latter. He then turns himself into the police and receives the death punishment, which incites massive public demonstrations and causes angry students to block his jail van. When Kuldeep asks him to address the students, he agrees and tells them to use their rage against corruption and become the change they want to see in the world. Aditya finally says as he is about to be hanged, that while he will perish, the movement will continue.
