Bashir Babbar and Kanti Shah's action movie Gunda was released in 1998 in Hindi. Anil Shah produced the movie, while Anand Raj Anand created the music, which starred Mithun Chakraborty, Mukesh Rishi, and Shakti Kapoor. The story centres on a coolie who swears to get back at a crime lord and his associates for killing his loved ones. It has an IMDb rating of 7.3 out of 10.
The opening scene of the movie has two dishonest politicians who hire Lambu Aatta and Bulla, two distinct criminal lords, to kill one other. Lambu Aatta kills the war by assassinating one of Bulla's henchmen; Bulla then exacts revenge by assassinating Lambu Aatta's brother. In order to make amends, Lambu Aatta assaulted and later killed Bulla's sister.
Bulla, who is currently the unchallenged boss of the underworld, is recruited by a crooked politician named Bachubhai Bhigona to kill a rival. Bulla assigns his operative Kala Shetty to the task. In front of several ogling police officers, Shetty successfully completes the murder, but as soon as he manages to elude them, he is apprehended and handed over to the authorities by Shankar. The main character, a coolie who occasionally works at the airport and a shipyard, is introduced here. He shares a comfortable home with his father, a police officer, his sister, Geeta, and Tinchu, a pet monkey. Additionally, Shankar has a girlfriend named Ganga who is eager to wed him, but Shankar is more concerned with other issues.
Shankar participates in a fighting match Bulla has set up in the shipyard, further enraging Bulla. Shankar just enters to win money so that another labourer can marry off his daughter, not for himself or to get renown. By simply twisting Bulla's prize fighter's hand for a brief period of time, he succeeds! The hostility intensifies as Bulla's goons beat up Shankar's father for trying to stop them from robbing shopkeepers of their money. When Shankar arrives on the scene, Bulla's warriors are able to somersault many feet into the air while fighting. Shankar defeats them. However, Shankar defeats them all quite easily, despite the fact that it was rather obvious during the fight that Bulla's men were pulling stunts on purpose and had only come to the location to be destroyed by Shankar.
Natte, one of Bulla's goons, kidnaps Shankar's sister and attempts to sexually assault her as payback. Gulshan intervenes to save her, and she later develops feelings for him. But as Gulshan marries Geeta and then gives her to Chuttiya for his enjoyment, this turns out to be Bulla's ploy. Bulla provides Chuttiya 'Vitamin Sex,' which he purchased in London, to help him get over his impotence. Chuttiya, on the other hand, rapes Geeta till she passes away, and he disposes of the body in the wilderness. As soon as Tinchu, Shankar's monkey, notices this, he directs Shankar to Bulla's residence. Bulla and his goons Ibu Hatela, Pote, and Inspector Kale confront Shankar as he pursues Chuttiya to Bulla's door. After threatening to exact revenge on them, Shankar departs.
Shankar's father is so distraught about the loss of his daughter that he threatens Inspector Kale, whom he accuses of working as a goon for the mobster Bulla. The inspector chokes the elderly guy to death after a brief struggle. Shankar meets Bulla and his goons and assures them that he would eliminate them all within ten days. In spite of his condition, Shankar encounters an abandoned baby girl while travelling back and decides to adopt her.
Then, Shankar goes on a killing spree and begins murdering each of Bulla's henchmen, starting with Gulshan. Ibu Hatela is beheaded by Shankar after he discovers him trying to rape a young woman. However, a sniper from another automobile kills politician Bachubhai Bhigona as he attempts to assassinate him. Shankar is apprehended, accused of the murder, and given a life sentence. The following night, Shankar breaks out of jail and pursues Inspector Kale. Then, a group of assailants with Kung-fu experience ambush Shankar with grenades, submachine guns, and knives. After beating them, Shankar kills Kale.
After that, Shankar pursues Chikna, who is hired by Bulla to seduce rural girls into travelling to the city where they are then coerced into prostitution. Shankar discovers that the baby girl he adopted was actually Bulla's illegitimate child before killing Chikna.
While Chuttiya and Bulla kill Pote's girlfriend Ganga, Shankar searches for Pote. When Shankar finishes with Pote, he moves on to Chuttiya. Shankar is then told by Chuttiya that he is impotent and so his older brother Bulla gave him vitamin sex to send him into a rage that caused him to viciously rape Shankar's sister. Shankar castrates Chuttiya as a form of retaliation and claims that this is what the man deserves.
Bulla and Shankar square off in the shipyard towards the climax. Bulla attacks Shankar with the assistance of a large number of auto rickshaws. The auto-rickshaws are destroyed by Shankar when he retrieves a rocket-propelled grenade launcher from the trunk of his car.
The scene abruptly shifts to a mining area, where Bulla attempts to use the adopted child, whom he believes to be Shankar's daughter, as a weapon in the struggle. Bulla soon discovers that the child is his, yet he continues to use it as a weapon. Shankar uses his monkey Tinchu to assist in saving the girl. Once more, the scene shifts to an airport when Bulla's rescuer Kala Shetty arrives in a chopper. Shankar kills Bulla and Kala Shetty after a quick struggle and the movie comes to a close.
