He works from home and resides there, where he uses his radio show, novels, and irrepressible wit to bring new magic to millions of listeners. 

Ethan’s internal organs are now failing, though. Ethan asks a judge to grant him permission to officially end his life so he can avoid being hospitalized permanently and being kept alive by a machine. Everyone in Ethan's circle is shocked by his request, or "guzaarish," but it particularly jeopardizes his relationship with Sofia, who is the center of his universe. What follows afterward forms the crux of the story.
