Highway Overview

Imtiaz Ali wrote and directed the 2014 Hindi-language road drama movie Highway, which Sajid Nadiadwala produced. Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt both appear in the movie. The movie is based on the Aditya Srivastava and Kartika Rane-starring episode of the Zee TV anthology series Rishtey with the same name, which was also written and directed by Imtiaz Ali. It depicts the tale of a girl who, after being abducted, finds freedom for reasons that will later become clear.

Highway Release Date

Highway was released on various dates across the world. It was first released on 13 February 2014 at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival, followed by a release on 20 February 2014 in the UAE and a worldwide release on 21 February 2014.

Imitaz Ali wrote the movie Highway and the lyrics were penned down by Irshad Kamil. A R Rahman gave the music for the movie Highway. The runtime of the movie Highway is 133 minutes or 2 hours and 13 minutes. Highway was made on a budget of INR 250 Million and earned INR 477 Million at the box office, making it a commercial success.

Highway Plot

Manik Kumar Tripathi is a wealthy business magnate from Delhi, and Veera Tripathi is his daughter. One day before her wedding, she and Vinay, her fiancé, whom she does not love, go for a trip. While Vinay is in the car shaking in panic, she is kidnapped from a gas station off a highway. When the kidnappers learn that her father has connections with the government, they lose calm. Mahabir Bhati, one of the kidnappers, is prepared to go to any lengths to complete this, though.

As the story progresses, Mahabir's fury slowly subsides as he begins to care for Veera and gradually drops his guard. In one of the small mountain villages they stop at, he tries to abandon her at a police station. Veera, however, declines and is adamant about sticking with Mahabir. He begins to fall in love with her as they travel together. Veera recalls that one of her many illogical ambitions was always to own a tiny house in the mountains while they were staying in a hilltop residence. Mahabir experiences emotion when he observes Veera taking care of him and making him feel like his mother. That night, each slept soundly, free from their tragic memories. 

The following day, the police shoot Mahabir in a commotion. Veera reacts angrily and strongly to this. Later it is discovered that Mahabir was put to death there and then. The movie ends with Veera confronting her uncle, who molested her as a child, and she leaves her house to build a factory in the mountains and live there peacefully.
