Akshat Verma's 2018 Indian black comedy film Kaalakaandi, starring Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Oberoi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Deepak Dobriyal, Isha Talwar, and Sobhita Dhulipala, was written and directed by Verma. Ashi Dua and Rohit Khattar are the film's producers.

Rileen learns that her husband is suffering from terminal stomach cancer. Despite being inconsolable, he keeps quiet in front of everyone. By smoking and borrowing LSD from a buddy, he intends to enjoy life to the fullest, but he's still miserable.

When his ex-girlfriend Selina calls to tell him to check into a hotel, his engaged brother Angad is already getting ready. Under the pretext of getting a haircut, Angad and Rileen headed out to meet her.

In the next tale, Tara is shown preparing to leave for the US to pursue a higher education as her boyfriend Zubin tries to talk her out of it. They both attend a birthday celebration a few hours before her trip, but the gathering is shortly raided by the authorities. As her flight is in two hours, Tara is anxious, but she is unable to go because the police have secured the area. With the help of her pals and Zubin, she is able to drive away. After a violent dispute between Tara and Zubin about Tara kissing a guy, Tara loses control of the vehicle and crashes into a motorcycle, killing two people. Tara feels bad, but she decides to leave after Zubin and her companions encourage her against calling the police.

Rileen is experiencing hallucinations as a result of the LSD. He meets Sheila, a transgender lady, and calmly and without showing any emotion informs her that he wants to visit her 'Southern Hemisphere.' He is successful in doing this. As a result of his happiness, Rileen chooses to cross off more items on his bucket list.

The following tale concerns Mafia and Rahmat, two thugs who desire to become famous. They come up with a scheme to extort money from their own boss Raza and fabricate a tale. Meanwhile, at a party, two motorcycle-riding assassins kill Ustad, who had assisted Raza, on the highway. The crime is seen by Rahmat and the Mafia.

As soon as Angad realises that Selina is only using him, he regrets cheating on Neha, his fiancée. When Angad meets Neha, he speaks with her. Neha and Angad embrace and prepare to wed after Angad finds that Neha is a very nice girl he can have.

He kills Rahmat as a result of the mafia's avarice and keeps the entire sum of money. Then, after shooting himself in the abdomen, he tells Raza that someone stole their money, killed Rahmat, and injured Mafia as well in the ensuing battle. Mafia is on the point of being killed by Raza, who doesn't trust him. Mafia enters the street.

When Rileen first meets Rakhi, the wedding photographer, she learns that his son also has a birthmark on his elbow, just like hers. When Rakhi inquires about his name, he responds, 'People only meet, tell each other their names, and then go away, which is of no use'. She is also informed about his developing cancer by him. Rileen is consoled by Rakhi, and the two of them kiss. She says, 'I don't know,' in response to the question, 'What does he mean to her?'He grins broadly and introduces himself as Rileen.

Zubin urges Tara not to think about the terrible night as she checks into the airport. Tara decides to go to the police and file an FIR since she feels so terrible, but the police forbid her because the two men who died in the accident were mobsters who had previously murdered Ustad. Zubin finally sees Tara after waiting for her. Tara asks Zubin to marry her and gives him a kiss after realising how much he loves her.

Rileen storms into the wedding where Angad and Neha are dancing idly with everyone else. Along with his dancing, Rileen pulls out his rifle and lets off two bullets into the air. One of the bullets kills Mafia by striking him in the head, while another strikes Rileen and causes him to scream in agony and the movie comes to a close.
