Karan Johar, a film producer, actor, and director, hosts the Indian talk show Koffee with Karan on Hotstar. On November 19, 2004, the programme made its debut. After Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan, it is the second-longest-running chat programme on Indian Hindi television.

The makers claim that the show's premise is around spilling the beans while sipping a steaming cup of coffee. The programme gained popularity immediately and ranked as Star World India's top programme in 2005. In terms of ratings in 2005, only Friends on Zee Café came close to Koffee with Karan. The talk show was thus the most popular English-language television programme in India that year. The show received positive reviews from viewers outside of its initial target demographic of 15 to 34-year-olds. Due to its success, Star India decided to revive the programme on Star One in 2005, and in later seasons, it was simulcast on all of it.

In particular, Karan Johar's hosting manner on Koffee with Karan was praised for its originality. Its success is primarily down to its ability to attract some of the greatest stars in the Indian entertainment sector like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rakhi Sawant, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Cyrus Broacha and Hiten Tejwani, to name a few.

As a result of his friendships with most of his guests, Johar says he has to find the balance between being over-cautious and over-friendly.  Johar is seen coaxing, cajoling them, and interrogating them in what is described as his trademark talkative manner, and it is in fact their admissions and revelations that garner the greatest media attention. Most of the attention has focused on the rapid fire section of the show, which has been termed "infamous" due to the frequently revealing statements made throughout the round.
