Luv Modi, a youthful, devoted, and endearing man, is the centre of the story. The narrative opens with Luv recounting his personal love experiences and how he came to experience love in many kinds. Luv was the most adored and lavished-upon child; his grandma, mother, and aunt all adored him. But because of this, Luv's father occasionally experienced jealousy. Luv was consequently sent to boarding school. After 14 years, he finished his education and his Hotel Management course and came back. His closest friend was Saumitra. Luv's first love tale begins from this point on. When he sees his neighbour Mishti, he immediately develops feelings for her.
When Mishti and Luv cross paths again in his home, she first doesn't recognise him and assumes he's a servant. However, Luv quickly wins Mishti over with his wit and culinary prowess, and the two quickly become friends. As time goes on, Mishti discovers that Luv is a good man with a very unique perspective on women. Mishti tells Luv that she adores a guy like him, which enhances his hopes. Luv begins to feel affections for Mishti since he believes she feels the same way. He mockingly offers to assist her flee with the guy she loves. But at Sweetu's sister Luv's engagement party, he learns that Mishti is in love with Prem.
Because her family won't let her marry him, Mishti asks Luv to flee her for Prem. Luv, who has a sad heart, decides to assist Mishti in leaving with her boyfriend. Additionally, he succeeds in persuading Mishti's parents to accept Mishti and Prem. This explains why Luv's first relationship is unpleasant.
Luv later relocates to Mumbai. He dates several girls there, but none are his type. Later, he makes friends with Sonam, another girl he meets who is a neighbour. Sonam and Luv are together the most of the time. On the way to a wedding where they've been asked to work as wedding photographers, Luv begins to develop affections for Sonam. However, when he confesses his feelings to Sonam, Sonam rejects him angrily and vows to sever their friendship. Luv then confronts Sonam and departs from Mumbai. Once more, this love story is one-sided.
Then it is revealed that Luv was telling Preeti, a potential wife, all of this while his perspective had completely altered. Preeti found Luv's stories to be incredibly fascinating. He now thinks he should get married and settle down since love can still exist after marriage. Preeti claims she would wed Luv, but when her parents inquire about marriage, she replies "no." She phones Luv, using Sonam's identity, and meets him in a café, telling him she wants to see if he still has feelings for Sonam or if he wants to wed someone else. She goes on to say that she turned down the marriage proposal but is still interested in dating him, to which Luv replies that he is no longer interested in such things because he is worn out.
Preeti promises to be there for him. Luv gets over his prior love affair and gives a shot on Preeti after his mother advises him to give himself one more opportunity. Preeti now informs him that she is uninterested, confusing the man. Luv receives advise from Sumitra on how to wow Preeti in a variety of ways. Finally, when Luv openly inquires as to Preeti's true desires, she replies that she desires the original, vintage Luv. Luv comprehends what she is saying and begins to behave the way he did before—happy and loving. Preeti and Luv have fallen in love, but Luv is terrified to tell her.
Preeti informs Luv that she wants to put him to the test. She warns him to remain away from her until she can determine whether he truly cares for her, misses her, or is merely attached. However, Saumitra assists Luv because he is unable to find calm without meeting Preeti. He devises several strategies to wow Preeti this time while being the real Luv and using his own techniques.
Preeti extends an invitation to Luv and his family to attend her parents' 25th wedding anniversary. However, Sonam has been assigned as the location's photographer, much to Luv's disgust. When Sonam apologises to Luv and tells him how much she misses him, Luv becomes confused once more, and it is then made clear that Sonam and Preeti are related. Luv is perplexed when Preeti says she asked Sonam to put Luv to the test. Angry and frustrated, Luv confronts Preeti and prepares to leave the party when Preeti makes a speech about the marriage of her parents and begins telling the story of how she met and fell in love with Luv. However, because of earlier events, Luv had forgotten who he really was, and she wanted to help him remember.
Preeti put him to the test several times, passing each time, but she also came to the realisation that calling Sonam was going too far. She adds that it was a test for Preeti and Luv, and that if Luv had continued to love Sonam, Preeti would have also been broken. But after that, she is certain and asks Luv to marry her; Luv accepts and consents. The movie then comes to a beautiful conclusion as Luv tells his son about this love story.
