Om Shanti Om is a Hindi movie about a young, underpaid film artist who falls in love with Shanti Kashyap, a secretly married actress who was killed by her husband in 1977. Om sees this, and tries to save her, but is severely harmed which also leads to his death. 

The movie plot is then shifted to 2007, where after having a second chance at life as the wealthy superstar Om Kapoor, he decides to exact revenge on Mukesh with the aid of Shanti's identical twin Sandy Bansal.
