The Games of the Paralympiad, also known as the Paralympics or Paralympics, are a recurring series of international multisport competitions that feature athletes with a variety of physical impairments, such as impaired muscle power (such as paraplegia and quadriplegia, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida), impaired passive range of motion, limb deficiency (such as amputation or Dysmelia), leg length difference, small stature, hypertonia, ataxia, athetosis, eyesight impairment, and intellectual disability.

The International Paralympic Committee oversees every Paralympic event (IPC).

Since the Seoul, South Korea, Summer Olympics in 1988, there have been both Winter and Summer Paralympic Games, which are held every immediately after the corresponding Olympic Games.

The Paralympic Games are run concurrently with and in a manner comparable to the Olympic Games.

There are numerous divisions in which the Para athletes compete because of the wide range of disabilities they have. Ten approved disabilities kinds make up the list of allowed disabilities. There are eight categories: intellectual disability, limb deficiency, leg length disparity, hypertonia, ataxia, impaired muscle power, and impaired passive range of motion. These groups are subdivided even further into several classifications.

The last edition of the Summer Paralympics was held in 2020 in Tokyo while the last edition of the winter Olympics was held in China in the year 2022. Just like the Olympic games, the Paralympics is also held every four years and the next Summer Paralympics will be hosted by Paris in 2024 while the winter Paralympics 2026 is being hosted by Milan and Cortino D’Amprezzo.

India has done extremely well at the Paralympics in recent years. Four was India's previous best result at a single Paralympic Games (2016 as well as 1984 but more gold medals in Rio). In Tokyo, they won almost five times as many. India won 9 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze bringing the tally to a whopping total of 19 medals and securing the 24Th place at the Paralympics.

India has secured a total of 31 medals at the Paralympics in total thanks to athletes like Rampal Chahar, Sumit Antil, Sundar Singh Gurjar, Singhraj Adhana, Sharad Kumar, and Avani Lekhara.
