Pardes is a Hindi movie that in contrast to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which focused on NRIs with Indian hearts, Pardes examines the life of Westernized Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in North America, giving the label "strange land" its true meaning.

In Pardes Kishorilal,  desires an Indian spouse for his adopted son in the west. He brings Ganga, the daughter of a friend, to the United States and gets him engaged to her. She has a closer relationship with Arjun, Kishorilal's foster son, though.
