Based on the 2006 book of the same name by Vikram Chandra, the streaming television series Sacred Games is a neo-noir crime thriller. It was the first Netflix original series created in India, and it was helmed by Phantom Films' Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap. Varun Grover, Smita Singh, and Vasant Nath adapted the book. Vikramaditya Motwane, Erik Barmack, and Kelly Luegenbiehl served as the show's executive producers.

The series follows the events that occur after Sartaj Singh, a disgruntled police officer in Mumbai, receives a call from mobster Ganesh Gaitonde telling him to protect the city within 25 days. Aamir Bashir, Jatin Sarna, Elnaaz Norouzi, Pankaj Tripathi, Radhika Apte, Girish Kulkarni, Neeraj Kabi, Jeetendra Joshi, Rajshri Deshpande, Karan Wahi, Vikram Kochhar, Sukhmani Sadana, Amey Wagh, Joy Sengupta, Kubbra Sait, Surveen Chawla, Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, and Amruta Subhash make up the rest of the cast.

Sartaj Singh is a disturbed inspector in the Mumbai Police who looks to the corrupt police department for approval. Ganesh Gaitonde, a reputed criminal leader who has been underground for 16 years, calls him. In 25 days, he orders Sartaj to protect the city, setting off a series of events that reaches far into India's underbelly. Anjali Mathur, a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) official, assists Sartaj on his quest while flashbacks reveal Gaitonde's beginnings and how he came to be known as Mumbai's crime boss. The first season follows Sartaj as he looks for hints about Gaitonde's past and learns that Gaitonde and his father had a link.

Gaitonde's tragedy is continued in flashbacks in season two as Sartaj looks for explanations. Sartaj finds an ashram that his father formerly belonged to and discovers about their doomsday preparations to usher in a brand-new, peaceful era. Flashbacks show Gaitonde's encounter with Khanna Guruji, his integration into the ashram, and his interactions with them. The RAW officer Kusum Devi Yadav, who seeks to keep Gaitonde's arch nemesis Suleiman Isa alive so she may capture and execute Shahid Khan, a dangerous fanatic who reveals to be Sartaj's cousin and hatches a conspiracy with the ashram to destroy India, also explains how Gaitonde was sent to Kenya.

Critics largely gave Season 1 high reviews, praising the writing and acting in particular. It is the lone Indian television programme on The New York Times' list of "The 30 Best International TV Shows of the Decade". A third season is being thought about by the producers after the second season, which debuted on August 15, 2019, received a mixed reception. According to Siddiqui, there won't be a third season and the finale of the show was left open-ended.
