A 2018 drama film in Hindi with the working title Sui Dhaaga was made by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma under the direction of Sharat Katariya. Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma play a married couple starting their own little textile company in a tiny village in India. In supporting parts, it also has Raghubir Yadav, Yamini Das, Komal Chabbria, and Namit Das.
A small-town resident named Mauji Sharma resides with his parents and wife Mamta. In the nearby handicraft shop, his grandfather worked as a tailor. The business finally failed, putting Mauji's family in danger of becoming bankrupt. His father Parasram is currently employed by the government and is getting ready to retire. As an errand boy for a sewing machine store, Mauji is frequently made fun of and treated poorly for the entertainment of his boss. Because of the small area and Mamta's ongoing domestic responsibilities, he silently laments the fact that his meetings with her are relatively limited. Despite everything, he has a positive outlook on life. He is a talented tailor as well, and he frequently uses a sewing machine Yogesh, a neighbour and friend, has loaned him for little repairs.
Mamta notices the abuse her husband receives at work while attending the marriage of one of Mauji's coworkers, and she is obviously displeased. She implores him to resuscitate the family business, stating that respect for oneself comes before wealth. Despite being aware of the dangers, Mauji dismisses the idea. Nevertheless, her comments have an effect on him, and he ultimately decides to retire, much to Parasram's displeasure.
The family is placed in a difficult situation when Mauji's mother has a cardiac arrest because, with Parasram now resigned, they cannot fund the therapy. Jugnu, Mauji's younger brother, tells him about a job as a clerk in Meerut. Jugnu lives separately in the same neighbourhood with his wife and son. Mauji declines it and, with the help of his wife, opens a roadside tailoring business near the local market. Mamta embroiders a hospital garment that he sews for his mother. Other patients notice the item and request one as well, which inspires the two to come up with a fresh way to make money. Yogesh returns his sewing machine because he is envious of Mauji's achievement. The pair crosses the state line to successfully get a sewing machine that the government has given out to the less fortunate.
The authorities become aware of Mauji's activities inside the hospital. Guddu, the staff-friendly brother-in-law of Jugnu, approaches him and Mamta and requests that they produce the hospital gowns under the name of the apparel company he works for. Additionally, he provides them with both jobs at the factory. The two decide to accept the job after considerable consideration even though they are in desperate need of the money. They transfer over the ownership of their apparel and needlework ideas to the business's clever owner, Harleen Bedi, who takes full advantage of their credulity. Mauji fights with Guddu after becoming increasingly angry at being tricked. He gets beaten and expelled from the factory; Mamta discreetly does the same.
Following their utter humiliation, the pair chooses to enter themselves in the annual Raymond Fashion Fund contest for aspiring designers, in which Harleen is also competing. Their business is known as Sui Dhaaga: Made in India. Following the jury's shortlisting of their initial designs, they make contact with every neighbourhood ex-artisan and ask for assistance and participation in the fashion show. Parasram eventually joins in and offers assistance. On the day of the fashion presentation, everyone praises the distinctiveness of their clothing. Two judges revealed just before the results were made public that, despite the fact that any other designer in their position would have won with ease, their lack of prior design expertise actually worked against them. The group heads back to take the bus home, dejected. The judges then reconsider their choice and decide Team Sui Dhaaga is the winner. When everyone is summoned back, Mauji and Mamta are overjoyed to see their dreams come true as they rehearse walking down the ramp.
