Vikas Bahl is the creator of the ZEE5 original black comedy Sunflower. The series' co-director is Rahul Sengupta. It is a Reliance Entertainment production, and Sunil Grover, an actor and comedian, plays the title character, Sonu. Ranvir Shorey, Girish Kulkarni, Radha Bhatt, Shonali Nagrani, Sonal Jha, Pallavi Das, and Ashish Vidyarthi are among the performers who appear in the cast.

The plot centres on a murder case that takes place in Mumbai's "Sunflower" middle-class housing society. Kapoor has been murdered and Mr Ahuja tries to destroy the evidence by disposing it off but was unsuccessful in doing so. Sonu has been careless in this situation and has been apprehended by the police thinking he is the murderer. All hells break loose when, because of a misunderstanding, the police become certain that Sonu is the killer. They find out that he and Mr Kapoor had some altercation over the parking space and to top it off, they also found a bottle of rat poison in his dustbin. He is also accused by his boss of leaking an upcoming product and is wanted by the police. With no options left, Sonu goes into hiding and with the help of one of Sonu's exes, the police are able to put false charges on him. In a sudden twist, it is found that Sonu has been kidnapped just before the police come to arrest him and the show ends on a cliffhanger, giving a possibility of season 2.

Sunflower was loved by critics and audiences alike, who praised the direction and writing of the web series. Special praises were showered upon Sunil Grover and Ranvir Shorey, who were considered to be the standout performers of the show. The series started streaming on ZEE5 on 11 June 2021.
