The only South Indian film shown at the inaugural India International Film Festival was the Telugu movie Pathala Bhairavi (1951). H.M. Reddy, who directed the first bilingual (Telugu and Tamil) talkie Kalidas, produced Bhakta Prahlada, the first Telugu movie with audible dialogue (1931).
