The Intern is a remake of the same-titled Hollywood film, which starred Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in the lead roles. Following Piku, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan will once again share the screen in the Hindi adaptation of the Hollywood film. Deepika and late actor Rishi Kapoor were listed as the lead actors when the movie was first announced.

Amit Sharma of Badhaai Ho fame is directing The Intern, which is also being co-produced by Sunil Kheterpal, Deepika Padukone, and Warner Bros India. The screenplay was written by Mitesh Shah and Akshat Ghildial. The movie has not yet been given a release date.

A new report states that the movie, which was originally supposed to start filming last year, will soon start production in 2022 or early 2023.
