The first draft of this film was written in the year 1997.  It was directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Adesh Prasad. Tumbbad’s producers were Sohum Shah, Aanand L Rai, Mukesh Shah & Amita Shah. Tumbbad film’s making started in the year 2012.

In Tumbbad, Sohum Shah plays the role of Vinayak Rao. The role of Vinayak’s mother is played by Jyoti Malshe. Dhundiraj Prabhakar Joglekar plays the role of young Vinayak. Anita Date - Kelkar plays the role of Vinayak’s wife. Mohommad Samad plays the role of Pandurang. Deepak Damle plays the role of Raghav. Ronjini Chakraborty plays the role of Vinayak’s mistress. Madhav Hari Joshi plays the role of Sarkar and Rudra Soni plays the role of Sadashiv.
