Bhumi Pednekar is of Konkani and Haryanvi ancestry; her mother, Sumitra, worked as an anti-tobacco crusader after her husband passed away from oral cancer; and her father, Satish, was a former home and labour minister of Maharashtra.
Bhumi Pednekar has a twin sister named Samiksha Pednekar who is a lawyer by profession and did her college at Jindal Global School. Bhumi Pednekar attended Arya Vidya Mandir in Juhu for her schooling. She went to study acting at Whistling Woods International when she was 15 years old, but she was ejected for having a terrible attendance record. She later joined Yash Raj Films as an associate film director. After that, she spent six years working for the company under Shanoo Sharma. She completed her graduation simultaneously by getting a correspondence degree in Bachelors of Commerce (BCom) from the University of Mumbai.
