Police officer Shardul Thakur's widowed mother is always nagging him to get married. Later, Suman Singh, commonly known as Sumi, a physical education teacher, finds a woman on a lesbian dating app and accepts the woman's request to meet her in a café. Sumi discovers once she arrives at the café that she has been speaking with a male posing as a lesbian the entire time. Sumi exits the café out of fear, but the man follows her. He counters threats to reveal her as a lesbian when she threatens to report him to the police. Sumi, who has grown tired of his blackmail, informs Shardul about it, who just so happens to work in a police station with a large number of female policemen. When Shardul first meets Sumi, he informs her that the dating app user has been warned. He proposes marriage to Sumi while also disclosing that he is gay and that getting hitched would satisfy both of their families. Sumi agrees to the terms, and they are married.
Shardul presents his boyfriend Kabir to Sumi as they are on their honeymoon. After their journey is over, Shardul and Sumi go to the police quarters. Later, Sumi meets Rimjhim, a hospital employee. On their date, Rimjhim discloses that her family had disowned her because she is a lesbian. After that, they begin dating, and Rimjhim moves into Sumi's room. Sumi admits she wants a kid and says she obtained the passport in the hope of travelling abroad to adopt.
When Shardul believes Kabir is cheating on him, he strikes Kabir. Kabir then abandons him; as a result, leaving Shardul heartbroken. A while later, Guru Narayan, a gay lawyer, spots Shardul in charge of a crowd of homophobic protesters outside a gay wedding. He falls in love with Shardul right away and puts his business card in his pocket. Shortly after, they start dating, and Guru Narayan introduces Sumi and Rimjhim to him.
On Diwali, Shardul and Sumi visit his residence. When asked why Sumi isn't pregnant yet, Shardul responds that she is infertile and begs his brother-in-law not to inform the rest of the family. He betrays his word and continues to do so, and Sumi is tricked by Shardul's family into taking a fertility test, which is successful. To ensure that they are intimate, Shardul's mother moves into their apartments. Sumi informs her mother-in-law that Shardul is infertile when discussing this, supporting her claim with a fabricated test from Rimjhim's laboratory. Sumi is delighted when Sumi and Shardul's families decide that the couple should adopt a child. They submit an application when they visit an adoption agency.
After leaving for her house and missing the train, Shardul's mother returns to find Sumi and Rimjhim having a private moment. She informs both families of this. Sumi is asked by Shardul not to disclose his sexual preference. Sumi is warned by her mother and brother, and her father quietly departs the building. Sumi pursues her father and tells him she believed he was the only family who would support her under any circumstance. Because Sumi is a lesbian, Sumi has upset Shardul's family. Then, as a sign of support, Shardul comes out as gay to his family. Shardul joyfully informs Sumi of his identity once his mother has come to terms with it. Later, Shardul comes out to his employees by wearing a rainbow-colored mask at a Pride march.
Shardul learns that his and Sumi's application for adoption has been approved after they decide to split. Because of this, they decide against divorcing and instead decide to stay together so they can have children. A ceremony of adoption is carried out by Shardul and Sumi a year later, and Rimjhim takes part as one of the parents. For the event, Shardul's boss and his wife come to their house. Rimjhim leaves Sumi's side as he sees them. Assuring her that the mother must be there, Sumi's father instructs Rimjhim to carry on with the procedure. Shardul requests Guru Narayan's participation in the rite. The superior is still surprised and confused by this, but the four are glowing brightly.
