Marathi Stars are a prominent part of the Marathi film industry that produces movies in the Marathi language. Its headquarters are in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is the oldest film industry in Indian cinema and is based in historic Mumbai.

Shree Pundalik, directed by Dadasaheb Torne, was the first Marathi film to be shown in India on May 18, 1912, at the Coronation Cinematograph in Mumbai. Despite being much smaller than Hindi cinema, which is likewise headquartered predominantly in Mumbai, Marathi cinema is tax-free thanks to the state of Maharashtra and has seen recent growth.

The prominent male actors from Marathi cinema include Swapnil Joshi, Sunil Brave, Shivaji Satam, Ankush Choudhary, Amey Wagh, Siddhartha Jadhav, Mohan Joshi, Sanjay Narvekar, Adinath Kotare, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Rohit Phalke, etc.

The Marathi film industry has recently produced a number of films that have been both critically and financially successful.

In terms of box office receipts and critical acclaim in the first quarter of 2010, Marathi cinema somewhat outperformed other Indian film industries, such as Bollywood, thanks to the excellent contributions and efforts of numerous producers and filmmakers from the Mumbai film industry.

Blockbuster movies like (Zombivli) and (Pawankhind), which were developed on budgets of 12 crores and 40.05 crores respectively, were produced in recent years by the Marathi film industry.
