Introduction

Lalbazaar is named after the Kolkata Police Headquarters. The program depicts a team of committed officers resolving crimes in the Bengali heartland while a few spoilsports act like black sheep. Perhaps it is the show's predictability that unravels it. The blandness of the crimes and their obvious remedies detract from the show's high production standards.

Plot 

Circle Officer (CO) Abida, a member of the department, was killed during a confrontation with a dangerous criminal group, and the loss has left AC Homicide Suranjan Sen permanently broken. On the other hand, young OC Saabir Ahmed is torn between his responsibilities as a law enforcement officer and a family that is in danger of disintegrating due to the risks they face as a result of his line of work. Additionally, a hurried SI named Mira Dasgupta wants to apprehend controversial serial killers, but her supervisors are holding off until she is fully prepared. There are so many police officers, and there are so many backstories... but only one query: how to restore safety to sleepless Kolkata?

The first scene of this trilingual web series, which is dubbed in Tamil, Hindi, and Bangla and is hosted by Ajay Devgn and directed by Sayantan Ghosal, has an unidentified man having sex with a local prostitute named Ruby in a highly emotional scene. And things are not looking well for her either: after learning that she is expecting Abhi-ka-baccha, the man is so furious that he suffocates the woman to death. When the brothel madam later tries to hide it up by claiming it was a suicide, it causes a huge uproar and notifies the KP that something terrible is going on. Black and white, this notion holds a lot of promise: brutal criminals, harder-working, rougher cops.

Lalbazaar was premiered on the 19th of June 2020 with a total of 10 episodes in the first seaosn. The show was telecasted on Zee5.

The drama is set in Kolkata, and the lead actor, Kaushik Sen, gives you a sense of the location with his Bangla-accented Hindi. The series also shows the cultural warmth of the City of Joy. One of the show's rare successes is the seasoned performer Kaushik Sen, who brings his experience and depth to the role. An obsessive cop who is supposed to give a quirky element to the story instead comes off as a caricature. The series is a blockbuster when it comes to hitting an emotional chord with the spectator through the characters' personal stories.

Lalbazaar is an Indian Hindi Langauge television drama which was directed by Sayantan Ghosal. Surendra Singh and Nispal Singh produced the show. Rangan Chakravarty worked on the web series screenplay and wrote the show. 

Character Analysis

PlaySuranjan Sen- Assistant Commissioner, the city's homicide squad's tough and unpredictable leader. Suranjan, an alcoholic and a loner, meticulously examines the murders while horrific events from his past torment his conscience.

D.C.Sharma- Deputy Commissioner (DC) B D Sharma, an old-school Indian Police Services (IPS) officer who is always there for Suranjan.

Gaurav Dutta- Gaurav Datta, the suave villain who is the DC of the Port region, which is the epicenter of big criminal activity. Despite being the mafia boss Abbas' business partner, Gaurav does not misbehave. However, at the end of the web series, his true colours start to show.

Maya Ghosal- Maya is a 30-year-old television news anchor and lover of Surajan. She does not view love in the typical possessive manner and believes in giving Suranjan his own space.

Abbas Gazi- He is the mafia boss and controls a significant smuggling operation in Nepal, Bangladesh, and India. In addition to loading and unloading goods at the Kolkata port, Abbas Gazi also traffics in women and operates brothels.

Shabir Ahmed- Shabir lives with his wife, Nafisa, their 3-year-old daughter Sana, and his mother-in-law. In the police drama, he takes part in the murder of a sex prostitute.

Farzana Banu- Farzana, the protagonist Suranjan's best friend, is a fiery woman. Despite being in the center of Watgunj, Farzana had the guts to confront Gaurav and Abbas alone. She is Babar's daughter, who served as officer Suranjan's right hand.

Meera Dasgupta- Young and feisty Meera Dasgupta, an IPS trainee, believes Suranjan is sexist and withholds demanding tasks from her as a result. Later on, though, she develops a different opinion of him and becomes a fervent supporter of Suranjan.

Conclusion 

Lalbazaar is a noteworthy online series with a captivating story, well-rounded characters, and a brutal, accurate depiction of police operations in India. Each character in the story, from Farzana to Suranjan Sen, the head of the Lalbazaar police division, is distinct and gives dimension to the plot. Lalbazaar is a must-watch for fans of crime dramas and anybody interested in learning about the nuances of the Indian legal system due to its excellent writing, intense suspense, and great ensemble cast.
