Plot 

Alisha 'Al' Khanna, a 30-year-old yoga instructor, is developing an app but is having trouble finding investors to support her unemployed writer partner Karan Arora. Along with having anxiety, she is alienated from her father Vinod and is struggling with the suicide of her mother Sonali when she was a little child. Alisha's cousin Tia 'Ti' invites the couple to their beach villa in Alibaug because she is engaged to Zain Oberoi. Due to their terrible pasts, Zain and Alisha connect and flirt with one another. Alisha kisses him afterwards and regrets it, but when she finds out that Tia was permitted to read Karan's draught, she is angry because she had been requesting to do so for a very long time. They start an affair after she lets Zain back in.

On February 11, 2022, Gehraiyaan made its Amazon Prime Video debut. The movie received mixed to positive reviews from critics, who praised the soundtrack, cinematography, visual style, and acting of the cast—in particular, Deepika Padukone and Naseeruddin Shah—but criticised the plot, the script, and the climax.

The film Gehraiyaan garnered mixed to excellent reviews from critics. Its soundtrack, cinematography, and cast performances, particularly those of Padukone and Shah, received accolades; nevertheless, the film's plot, narrative, and climax attracted criticism.  The Times Of India's Renuka Vyavahare scored the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars and stated, 'Batra attempts to decode complex human behaviour and its effects through a story that is difficult to narrate.' The film received a score of 3.5/5 from Devesh Sharma of Filmfare, who also noted that Kaushal Shah 'shot the movie quite beautifully.' A film with good acting and a touch of intrigue that is also technically sound. The foursome of Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Dhairya Karwa should have been a throbbing hot mess, but the film doesn't go deep enough, according to Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, who awarded the movie 2 out of 5 stars.

Gehraiyaan is a profitable venture as a direct release to Amazon Prime Video and gave it a direct 40.00 Crores profit besides the profit from satellite rights.

The film released directly on Amazon Prime Video and was estimated to be sold to Amazon Prime Video for 100.00 Crores giving a clear profit of 40.00 Crores to Dharma Productions before satellite rights. The Price paid by Amazon prime is 5th highest ever for a Bollywood movie after Laxmii, Coolie No 1, Atrangi Re and Raadhe.

Gehraiyaan has collected 7 Lakh views in its first 24 hours of being available on Amazon prime which is fairly disappointing and lower than the benchmark of 1 Million or 10 Lakh views which will ensure that movie is a flop on OTT.

Awards

The movie received mixed to positive reviews from critics, who praised the soundtrack, cinematography, visual style, and acting of the cast—in particular, Deepika Padukone and Naseeruddin Shah—but criticised the plot, the script, and the climax.
