Introduction 

Vivah (translated as Wedding / Marriage) is a 2006 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film written and directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya and starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao. Rajshri Productions produced and distributed the film.  Vivah depicts the story of two people and their journey from engagement to marriage and the aftermath. Vivah is Shahid Kapoor's fourth film in which he co-stars with Amrita Rao. The film was released on November 10, 2006, and became one of the year's biggest commercial successes, grossing over 139 million (US$1.7 million) worldwide.

Plot

Vivah" is a 2006 Bollywood romantic drama film directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya. Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao play the key characters in the film. The plot centers around two young people, Preeti (Amrita Rao) and Prem (played by Shahid Kapoor). Their families arrange for the two to meet for an arranged marriage. They both consent to the match and begin to fall in love with each other.Their joy is short-lived, however, as Preeti's father has a heart attack and she decides to postpone the wedding to care for him. Prem, being the gentleman that he is, backs Preeti's decision and waits for her.

Prem's family runs into financial difficulties and is forced to sell their home as the days pass. Preeti's family learns of this and chooses to offer financial assistance to Prem's family in exchange for his patience. When Preeti is involved in a vehicle accident and becomes paralysed, the film takes a dramatic turn. Prem, being the dedicated lover that he is, chooses to go ahead with the wedding and commit his life to Preeti. The film concludes with Preeti's recovery and the couple's marriage, while their families celebrate.

Character Analysis

Poonam is the film's primary character. She is a classic Indian girl who is young and innocent. The cast including the director and producer visited many hospitals and medicine centers to get first hand knowledge about burns. 

Anupam Kher complimented Amrita Rao saying that one cant just walk on stage and perform the character of Poonam. To be able to play the role perfectly one needs to have the characters qualities of kindness and love.
