Biography
Madhuurima Banerjee, who also goes by the name Nyra Banerjee, is an actress from India. She acts mainly in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada movies, as well as Hindi TV shows. She's most famous for playing the main character in the Colors TV show "Pishachini," which is about supernatural events. She also competed in the adventure reality TV show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 13. She changed her name from Madhuurima Banerjee to Nyra Banerjee in 2016.
Early Life
Nyra Banerjee was born on 14th May, 1987. Her birthplace is in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father’s name is Prithviraj Varman he was a mechanical engineer. Nyra Banerjee’s mother’s name is Nandita aka Purnita Banerjee; she is a novelist. Nyra also has a younger brother.
Banerjee learned Hindustani classical music and ghazal from her mother and used to sing children's songs. She also learned the classical dancing form Kathak but had to discontinue due to her father's transferable job. While recording a song one day, she was spotted by noted director G. V. Iyer who signed her on for the Hindi television serial Kadambari. She was supposed to play Sita's role in a film adaptation of Ramayana that G. V. Iyer was planning to shoot, but the director died and the project failed to materialise. However, owing to her studies had to turn down some big banners, until Priyadarshan managed to convince her to play the lead in his movie.
Banerjee's official name is Madhuurima. In order to avoid confusion with her contemporary actress Madhurima Tuli, she changed her screen name to her pet name Nyra in 2016. In an interview with The Times of India, she stated: "I don't want any association with my old name 'Madhuurima'. In fact, I want everyone to get into the habit of calling me Nyra.
Career
That same year, she acted in her debut Telugu film. Over the next year, she was in three Telugu movies, including the lead in Vamsy's "Saradaga Kasepu" and a small part in Bhaskar's "Orange." These films, however, didn't advance her career much. In 2012, she starred in her second Hindi movie, "Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal," directed by Priyadarshan.
By 2014, she appeared in the Telugu movie "Veta," her first film in both Kannada "Savaari 2," and Malayalam "Koothara." In "Savaari 2" she played a bank manager, and in "Koothara" she portrayed Shaista, a Non-Resident Indian. She also featured in the Telugu movie "Kotha Janta" with Allu Sirish[8] and had a special appearance in the movie "Green Signal," co-produced by Maruthi.
In early 2015, she acted in Puri Jagannadh's "Temper," which was a hit and she received high praise for her performance. Following that, she appeared in two Tamil movies, "Serndhu Polama" directed by Anil Kumar and "Aambala" by Sundar C. She was working on the Telugu film "Close Friends" and finished shooting the Malayalam film "Black Coffee," where she plays a woman from Kerala living in Mumbai.
Additionally, she helped director Tony D'Souza with his movie "Azhar."
In 2019, she took on the role of Divya in the Star Plus TV show "Divya Drishti" alongside Sana Sayyad.
